What's your highest hour tractors without an overhaul?

Just thought it would be a fun subject. Ours is a 1971 4020 M&W turbo 125hp with, as of today, 27,609 hrs and has never been opened up. Our other 4020 needed done at 18,000 and it doesn't even work as hard. I guess the 71 just had an ace checking the tolerances that day!

The other one I'm impressed with is our 4630. It has been turned up to 240hp since 1980 and has 16,000 hours. First two years dad said he had to replace the turbo once a year, so he switched to synthetic and we haven't touched it since. I've seen the manifold glowing orange at night pulling the discovator a few times :) Everyone asks how on Earth it hasn't blown up. Apparently most people don't turn them up past 200. I just shrug and say- "ehh, it runs hot but it doesn't boil over, we use synthetic oil and cool it off before shutdown."

So let's hear it! What tractors have amazed you with their ability to last forever or take ridiculous amounts of abuse?

Got dads 52 A,we replaced front end, wore out,4 sets new rear tires no elcheepos.lord only knows how many hours is on it.lots of times id get home from school n let hired man go home, run it till midnite or so.and was ran lots like that, head never been off yet still uses no oil.when it was new dad put it on the big paepec hammer mill and 2 of my cousins shoveled corn in as fast as they could.broke in working might be why it ran this long

My MH 44 Special shows about 7000 hours on the clock. I bought it from the original owner who claimed only a valve job in 60 years of ownership. Runs and operates as tight as a new one. Makes me wonder how much time some of those old pelters have that are so loose from wear it's hard to keep them on the road.

4955 has 7000 hrs, 4755 has 6000 hrs, 4450 has 7500 hrs, 4440 has 8500 hrs 4630 has 7200 hrs, 4430 has 9000 hrs with loader, another 4430 has 9500 hrs with loader. loader tractors are chore tractors one at each main farm nothing has been overhauled

I couldn't tell you. The only tractors I've overhauled were too old for an hour meter. My 1966 706 and my 4430 have not been overhauled yet. They both have about 6000 hrs.

1951 H Farmall, been in the family since 1956. No way of knowing how many hours it has on it, but the engine has never been opened up.

Dad's 1086 that he bought new in '81 has 12,000 hours on it and the engine, injection pump, TA, Clutch has never been touched. It did drop a gear in the rear end once plowing.

Shoulda added, I dropped the oil pan last year and plastigaged the bearings. All still within spec.

NO way to ever know as most did not have a hour metor and then the newer ones that had they did not work.

For me it would be the 1935 JD-B that was my grandfathers and if it has ever been rebuilt as for the engine it would have been done back in the 40 or 50s

My oldest don't have an hour meter but, it is a 1931 Farmall Regular and I can't prove it but I bought it from the original owner and he stated it was never apart and I don't see any reason he should tell me a fib. I never have had any work done on this tractor except plugs and points. It runs well. It's 88 years old.

Around here it will have to be Dad's F12. He bought it from the neighbor in the late 30's or early 40's. I know it has never been apart since Dad owned it, as far as I know. It was fairly new so I doubt the neighbor had it apart. It had a hard life. He cut hay with, cultivated beans, cut beans, and brought the shocks of hay to the stationary baler with the buck rake. It's been resting since the 60's. There's tractors around here with a lot of hours, but all have been opened up. Stan

Sounds to me like this a convention of "The Liars Club", LOTS and lots of stuff that can't be substantiated.

On the other hand, how about some posts about new stuff that died shorty after delivery and darned near broke the owner?

I could post a few (true and local) examples of that, but I would likely be accused of "brand flaming"!

I ran two tractors till they both had 8000 hours, and neither engine was torn down. I know where they are today, 5 years later and still original. My old tractors have mostly unknown history, are over 50 with unknown hours, but I think they have been opened up, and rebuilt at least the injection pump.

David Brown 990, my brother bought it new, was his only tractor for years, bought a new Ford 5610, sold it to me for scrap, I ran it for 10 yrs, finally last year it started knocking really bad but would still start. It Has at least 20,000 hrs. Had a timing chain replaced and injector pump replaced that's all. I replaced it with another David Brown 990 of course.

My DC has no meter but has to have many thousands of hours on it, I couldn't even guess. But it's been in almost daily use since 1955 when dad bought it. Didn't have as much use for a while when I wasn't farming, but it's back to almost daily use again and still my most reliable tractor. I did put a new water pump in it last winter. I also have an 830 that shows 7600 hours on a working mechanical tach and doesn't look like it's been apart and is in the shape to suggest that it hasn't as it's pretty tired. I just got it tho, so I can't say what has been done. You also have to take into account the difference between mechanical hour meters and electric as there is a big difference in how fast they count up hours, especially for light use machines.

Had a lot of old JD 2 cyl. and they never had an hourmeter so no idea how many could be on them.
Even more amazing is you had a 4020 hourmeter lasted that long ! Never heard of any that had the original one in it go past 10,000 hrs. Maybe you are on your 3rd one ?

I have a Deere 3020 here that was Dad's and it has 9700 hours on the tach. He bought it in the early 80's. It needs an overhaul but we only use it for light loader work. I do not think it has ever been worked on but will not know for sure untill I do an overhaul. Tom

We had over 9000 hrs. on the 700 Case when overhauled. Dash hour metor quit at 3000 something so Pa put one of those Hobbs on. Don't think they measure hours the same.

I had a 4240 that I bought when it was a year old and had 500 hours on it.I traded it off five years ago it had 15500 hours on it and the engine was never touched. It was a good tractor.I have heard of some high hour 4020 s that had never been overhauled they were a great engine.]
