Tkeing care of irrigation and staring at old tractors.

Yes I am taking care of irrigation on a farm and staring at some old tractors. I am post a tractor that got my interest it looks like a Massey? Ferguson. I know it is the Pony model tractor. Weather it runs (which it does not look like it). But it does have a back attachment that fits it. I wonder wht the farmer wants for it? I wonder what would be a fair price for this little tractor. So I thought I would ask out here in tractor land what is this thing might be worth. Please if you do not know a good fair price do not answer back. What is a pony tractor is it any real find to try to buy? Your input is important to an tractor NUT like me. Thanks.

It is a Massey Harris Pony. They are not very valuable. I see running ones sell for $500-700. There are a fair number of them out there too, so not rare. They were made from 1947 to 1957. Early ones where 12 hp and the later ones 15hp. Looks like it has been painted AC orange???

They had an attachment system of there own. So the attachments are hard to find. So they may have some value.

Well, Brent that is not very sporting of you! Anyone who reads this forum any amount at all whether or not they no anything about tractors can answer this one.

Think International Cub at 120% a bit bigger and stronger. 700 if running 500 if loose but not running 350 if stuck. It does have low pressure low volume live hydraulics. Jim

These and the CUBs both have really cute sounding little 4cyl. engines. I would ask and he just might give it to you cause you expressed some interest in it. Go for it!!

Hey JD seller: You say they have some attachment. well there is a rear blade hook up in the sand just 5 feet away from it. So I wonder what the price would be with the rear blade hook up? Need to ask him when he gets back from his trip. I already have a IH cub tractor with all the attachment. this would be some thing just to have in the small tractor collection that I am starting I guess.

Well you know just wandering can get me in to a lot of trouble. You know how you just get board watching water run. So you start to look around and then you find your self thinking. The Mustang is a six cylinder car in fact it is a 1965. Six cylinder cars are at least worth 30% to 40% less than a Mustang with a V-8 engine in it. The Massey Harris pony was sold for Base price of 837.50 They I.H. Cub was sold for a base price of 659.00. What is interesting is that the Cub tractor is more popular than the Pony. All the tractor show I go to I see a Farmall CUB hardly ever do I see a Massey Harris pony. The Pony has a Cont. N62 4 cylinder gasoline engine in it 2 3/8 X 3 1/2. Which is a 62 cu inch engine. VS the CUB has a engine designed by I.H. with a 2 5/8 X2 3/8 C-60 4 cylinder engine displacement of 59.5 Plus the Cub has up to 65 different attachments to run with it.

Hi Brent, when you put an attachment on a Pony you will have great difficulty in getting on and off it. The Pony was also made by Massey Harris in France from 1953 for working in the vinyards in the wine producing areas. MJ

One reason for more Cubs, 5 times the dealers than for the Pony, Dealer avaibility makes a big Difference. JD had more dealers than any one else, then IHC so that is why they are the most popular.. You go to a neighbor dealer if he was a decent person thatn try to go to next town or several towns farther to find a dealer for some you stick to close dealer. And some Makes if you had heard of then you would have had to go a thousand miles to find a dealer. Then quality of dealer was next.
