Hello all
My MF 300 jammed and stalled while harvesting barley ,can anyone help me with ideas on where to start looking for jam?

It still starts and runs fine but i can engage to combine , it just wants to stall.

Is there a certain panel to take off to look for jams?
Or is there a sequence of elimination to narrow it down?
I am going and work my way into the machine to start with the front end

Thank in advance

Bruce

I have never been around a Massey 300 but have been around Gleaner and IHC walker
machines. The Cylinder is probably plugged. You will need to open up the cylinder and
dig it out. If you have a book read it and it should tell you how to do it. You could
try pulling the drive belt by hand in reverse direction. Good Luck

You plugged the cylinder. Raise the header up and engage the safety lock. If there is not one do not get under the header. Open the concave all of the way. Remove the cover at the combine end of the lower feeder house. You can then see the front of the cylinder. I can not remember if there are covers on the top of the feeder house on a MF300 or not.

Start pulling out the plug. It will be a hot itching mess. When you get all you can out, turn the cylinder backwards. This will work out more of the plug. Then back to pulling out "stuff".

You will learn why guys cuss plugging the cylinder on a combine. LOL

Woah boy if its that packed, you gonna dig out a
round bales worth of straw.rod with hook can
help, park in shade you will figure that out
quickly... Better look behing cylinder bet
walkers are plugged too.GOOD LUCK and post back
with results.plugged combines have made preachers
say choice words too

Yes itch YES CUSSIN. Wait till you choke 1 with
milo or sunflowers .crap now im itchin shower
time

It has been to many years since I had a MF 300, but I think there should be a large wrench to turn the cylinder backwards. I think
a big nut on the cylinder shaft on the right side of combine. Good Luck--not fun and takes time

I was thinking the same thing. I'm quite sure my old Massey 750 had a big wrench and a hex nut on the cylinder drive pulley to turn it backwards. I filled the whole back end of that old 750 one time, from the chopper to the feeder house, when the chopper stopped while running beans one night. Took hours to dig it all out.

If it anything like 510 there should be a panel all the to the back of the feeder house it stand vertically to the feed house on the combine.Open it that is where the cylinder and concave are you can unplug it from there. Here what you need to do open the concave all the way up then see if the cylinder will turn backward if it does pull as much as you can keep doing till you clear the plug. Also turn the feed house backwards and get most of the material out of it and leave the concave open before you put power to the separator this should get you going.

Where the feeder house attaches to the combine there is a vertical panel just below the motor that should have 2 spring loaded pins on it. Take that panel off and you will see your problem. A 5 or 6' pry bar works good as anything to shove into the cylinder and try to turn cylinder as you dig it out. Wear a pair of leather glove so you don't cut your hands all up. As said, turn the cylinder backwards until the feeder house is cleaned out. You will also have to clean out under the auger on the header as you turn the cylinder backwards. Behind the grain tank on top of the machine there is a door that opens up. Check in there and make sure your straw walkers aren't plugged also. IF the straw walkers are plugged, start there first, otherwise when you turn the cylinder backwards, you are trying to jamb all that stuff back thru the cylinder. Most likely you had a large amount of crop bunch up in the head and then try to go thru all at once. When you get it all cleaned out, you will know to be more watchful for slugs at the header so you don't plug it up again. Usually the longer it is in there the harder it is to get it out. Chris

Yes the cylinder was Plugged .Took an hour to Clean out.
Thanks

Yes the Walkers were plugged badly.I pulled it all out the back with a garden rake. Took an hour.
Thanks

Another tip, first instnict when a big slug is about to go through is to disengage the separator clutch. Don't. Guaranteed to plug. Stop forward motion and hope for the best.

The later machines with the high inertia cylinders helped a bunch.

Yes i have been learning this.

Funny how they can plug in seconds and take you a day or two to get them unplugged. LOL

You will be a lot more careful in the future of what you run through the combine.
