Like I noted in my earlier thread I left it head down in the sun yesterday and later in the afternoon after about 4 pumps had all the grease I wanted. Lots of good suggestions but it appears air between the cartridge and the pump is the issue. I'll start over filling the end of tube next to the pump as suggested and leaving the head end slightly loose until grease can be pumped. Thanks much for all the suggestions but vertical storage with pump head down goes a long way to making them functional, Hal.

Also make sure and store the grease cartridge with the metal end down. Straight up and down too. A cartridge laid on its side will have an air pocket down the entire side.

McNaught grease guns you can pull the plunger handle right back and part turn them to lock it. Then you can lean on the plunger to prime them
