What a year for yard mowing !

Here in Ohio we have had lots of rain this year. Last week I went 8 days between mowings and really had a mess. I just mowed last night after 4 days and it was a lot better time to mow.
So for the time being I'm back on a spring schedule of around 2 x a week. I had my mower stuck 3 x this spring. Usually it goes through lots of mud and water and keeps on going , but not this year !
You guys that farm for a living must really be having a rough time of it this year. Good luck to you.

Same here in west MN. The farmers with hay and now doing small grains have had a heck of a time. Corn and beans are looking real good though. But cooler weather ain't helping them either. Almost all of the 1st and 2nd cutting hay got washed several times. And as far as mowing? Yea still every 4-5 days to keep up with it.

The spring started with me mowing the grass every 5 to 6 days, then we got a dry spell and I didn't need to mow for about 5 weeks, and now it's back to every 5 days. I should be mowing right now, but I'm not. I'm getting tired of it.

Only reason I'm still mowing is for the dandelions. Grass turned brown and quit a month ago (western Washington- not as rainy as everybody thinks in the summertime). Keep telling myself I'm gonna spray the dandelions- next spring IT WILL get done!

I saw a new zero turn mower for sale, instead of drive wheels it had tracks. I talked to a guy in the know and asked whether that wouldn't tear up sod on tight turns. He said not any more than wheels.

We had a couple weeks in the beginning of July when it got pretty hot and dry. Grass started to crisp up some, but then it started raining again. I have the greenest grass I've ever had in August this year. I like a nice looking lawn and don't mind mowing.

Some of those walk behinds are really heavy and leave more ruts than a large rider. I bought a used scag 36" walk behind and tried it in the front ditch. That was a disaster as that machine is really heavy. At least I resold it for a profit.

The first two weeks in August we had no rain. I can go about 2 weeks between mowing. My mower is set about 3.5 inches. Zoysia grass has slowed down. I mowed two acres this morning and about 2 acres yesterday with Jubilee and ft woods. The Farmall with 6 ft woods mows my other place. Yard is over 2 acres and hard to say how many acres get mowed in gravel pit.

I don't have Short Grass Psychosis but my wife who has a pretty bad case of it tells me the mowing has been keeping her pretty busy this year.Like I told her that's good as Idle Hands are the Devil's Workshop.

West central Iowa. Been mowing every 5 days except for 2 short weeks in July when it was 95 to 100 and 85 at night.

It's still crazy green here... with all the rain this spring and summer, and a cooler than average August, lawn growth has barely slowed down at all.
