Old Steam Tractor - Help Identify

RTR

Well-known Member
Anyone out there know what this is? I know it is a steam tractor but no nothing about them. Found it on Google Maps just browsing around and I know they are not that common in the South anymore. I'd like to knock on the door and purchase it but first need to identify it to see what I'm getting into.

That's a Frick. Built in Waynesboro PA. They had maye three of them at a museum that the wife and I visited a few years ago near Lancaster PA.

you don't know model or size do you ?

wonder what the approx value is of it in current state?

Value can vary greatly. Main thing is the boiler. Flues or
refluing is bad enough, but if the boiler jacket is bad there?s
money. Next would be gear wear or cracking. There is
possibility to recast, but it takes money. Anything is possible.
Search for Kory Anderson and the 150hp CASE.

There is plenty to be found about them looking around on line. Since there are no parts available the cost to restore is pretty much the same for any brand. A good resource would be Antique Power magazine. you could research articles on steam traction engine restoration and get some ideas of who works on them and where different assemblies come from and be able to get some ballpark figures.

I can?t help you with it but just wanted to say I know a guy that ran up on an old steam tractor that was not running
and was beyond reasonable restoration to make it go again, this guy paid $1000 cash for it just to use as yard art.
He said he got a deal at that price, it gets used as a back drop for a lady that?s a professional photographer from
time to time so he may be made his money back on it if he?s charging a fee....
Is RTR your initials ? Around here it stands for Roll Tide Roll !!!!!

For me....."RTR" stands for Roll Tide Roll (my alma mater and nearby town) and it stands for Red Tractor Restorations. Who do you know that has a steam tractor for yard art? I sure haven't seen one around Alabama anywhere!

(quoted from post at 01:08:23 08/27/19) I do not think you would want to restore it, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Would make GREAT yard art though!!

I have since found out that it is a 1912 Frick Eclipse , and it was last ran about 4 years ago.

It?s in Geneva County AL, next time I?m over that way I?ll take a picture of it, about 45 minutes east of me. It?s about
the size of the one you posted picture of.....

Four years? Is your source reliable? There doesn't appear to be any operator platform on it anymore and I am thinking there is usually a
water tank on the platform.

I found a magazine/online article about this very tractor actually so yes I would say it is reliable. Have a look.......

It would be great if you could be a mover in the process of getting it going again!
