over the years I have had several tractors. my main tractor has been a 960 ford I had for 20 years. couple weeks ago I bought aa d-17. prices has came down quite a bit on them. this one has a conversion 3pt and power steering, now these old Armstrong steering arms of mine is fading some what, this 17 has great power steering. just used brushog for 2/3 hours. man it was great compared to the 960. never again will I buy a tractor without power steering to use. who knows I might go for air next.

I know it was an option, but don?t know I?ve ever seen a 960 without power steering. Both ours had it.

I do understand!

You ain't kidding about that, my old 850 had power steering but was not functioning, had a loader too. Towards the end was getting worse, I was able make the upgrade, like you said never again for one that I use most. It got me through 14 seasons, but that was enough.

when I started mowing I had a TO 20, no power steering. I didn't realize how great power steering was. With my brodie knob, and power steering, on my other tractors. I can be going in the opposite direction in the blink of an eye. Stan

Some tractors steer easier than others,I rake hay with a David Brown 780 manual steer it steers pretty easy. The only ones I worry about having PS is a tractor with a loader or a real
big tractor, figure even though my strength isn't what it was at one time not using my arms for things like manual steering it'll go downhill even faster.

Lots of folks insist that you gots to have live power. Personally, if I had to choose between live power and power steering I would take the PS for sure. I only need live power when mowing but like PS for everything I do with the tractor.

I'm with you PS over live any day.
My Jubilee doesn't have live pto. I just lift mower, get blades spinning and then put it in gear and drop mower as tractor is moving.

The power director on the D17 is about as close as you can get to IPTO as you can get without actually having it. It makes operating a baler or brush hog a breeze compared to some tractors (like my Farmall 350) slipping the power director in heavy hay or extremely tall weeds isn't a big deal since its bathed in oil....

I have 1 Ford without, one I added an after market some years ago after I got tired of without, and one with. Yepper, nice to have. I get reminded every time I get on my '63 2000.

Growing up we had a neighbor who had a D-17, one of the newer Series. Sweet machine, it was a gasser and ran so smooth. Always thought I'd want one but my need is for only smaller tractors.
