I've been using a CPAP for sleep apnea over ten years but lately I've been seeing ads for the inspire device on TV. It's implanted and uses a wire running up under the skin to a muscle beneath the tongue. Turned on and off with a remote and is supposed to sense your sleep pattern. Does anybody here have experience with them? www.inspiresleep.com

First I've heard of it.

Worth looking into though, sounds promising.

I hate that machine! Dry mouth, no telling what's inside the blower, probably about like breathing through a shop vac after all these years.

Sounds like the same technology as a tens unit, but it stimulates the throat muscles without having to wake up and do it myself.

If you are looking for possible alternatives, there are also mouth pieces that supposedly help with sleep apnea. I don't any details about them, or if all sleep apnea problems are the same or helped. These mouth pieces also claim to help snoring which is not always related. Just do a google search or look on amazon or something. They look just like the ones football players or boxers would wear, no machines, wires, hoses, masks etc.

I've had sleep apnea since 1992. I sleep sitting up in my La-Z-Boy recliner.

Works for me;

I have used a CPAP for 8years. It totally changed my life. I am in the process of getting a travel model. What a difference a good sleep makes for a productive day. I feel safe about driving. I was having to stop and sleep on a 30 minute drive.
It would have to be proven for me to change.

I think I'd be asking a doctor about that one.

J. I don't think that asking for people's personal experiences in addition to what the professional says is ever a bad idea in making an informed decision on anything.

Been using a CPAP machine for years, can't sleep without it. Mine is a ResMed, has a humidifier built into it, uses about 1/2 cup of water per night and has a heater that heats the air hose in winter. I use a Brevida nasal pillow mask.

Let us know what you find out about surgery or implant or whatever.

Had sleep apnea controlled with cpap for over 30 yrs. Each newer machine seems to increase my rest. I would have to do lots of investigating before being an early bird on the wire installation.
