Corn head snout...

As much fun as this year has been, last year was a bundle of laughs too. So much rain in the fall. Rutted up the fields terrible trying to get my corn before the deer ate the last of it. Had to quit. Then I go back when the ground is frozen and, you guessed it, a combination of bleed down in the hydraulics and a bit of inattention and I caught a frozen rut and tore up one of my row dividers. Anyone know where I might find a good used one for an 800 series IH corn head? Thing is, it's a $1000 head and I don't want a new one that costs 20% of the header value. Not in a hurry, I only have one very small field to pick this year and the deer have eaten roughly half of it...I can probably pick what is left with the other row units in about an hour. :(

Do you still have the other piece ? If so Get a hammer and go after it. You might be able to make it work again.

I thought about it...but it is pretty crunched up. It's an interesting dilemma...how much is my shoulder worth to me vs how much do I want to save on the part?

Is there a sheet metal worker or body man around who could massage yours back into shape? Maybe some furnace man who makes his own ductwork (if there are any of those around anymore!)

Dave I have straightened much worse out so it didn't look to bad. Buy another smaller head for parts. If you don't check the oil level in the row units each year and even if you do you will eventually need to replace one so you would have parts then.

I would just go to my local auto parts store and pick up a couple sheets of 20 gauge sheet metal and bend it into a rough facsimile of what used to be there.

I can't necessarily vouch for these guys but who knows. They rebuild many IH heads. Sell some parts also.

For sure keep the pieces in case you can't find one.
Wonder if even one from another brand machine would be close enough to adapt ? I guess you have a few months to search before it is needed.

About straight south of you. Spalingers at Bluffton Ohio or a ways farther south Maplewood Implement at Maplewood, Ohio. Spallingers only combines and heads and they do ship. Have delt with both but not lately as haven't farmed for a few years.

Surprising what you can straighten with a small hyd jack and some blocking. Easy on the arm, too.
