OT-friends 2000 Blazer

My friend overheated his 2000 Blazer and now the automatic transmission doesn't shift right. You have to rev the engine past 3K to get it to shift into 2nd and it usually won't go into drive/overdrive.
We have changed those solenoids and the fluid and filter in the tranny. No codes show up to us guess.
Any ideas?

Thanks.
Dave

I really don't know if overheating is related to the trans, but the ATF cooler is in the radiator and if the engine was getting too hot, it probably wasn't cooling the ATF very well. Or the engine was revving real high due of trans issue and that's why it overheated. This doesn't sound like a shift solenoid issue, but possibly a TP sensor (guess) if not it's internal trans, maybe a 2nd servo/accumulator, or valve body problem.

Are you saying it holds 1st gear real long, and usually won't shift into 3rd & 4th or just 4th,? What happens when it won't shift into 3rd or 4th, does it go to a neutral like position or just stay in 2nd or 3rd? What was the condition of the fluid, and any debris in the pan?

"No codes show up to us guess."

NOT quite sure exactly what that statement means?

WHAT are you scanning it with?

A basic consumer-level scanner probably isn't showing you the powertrain codes.

If it's that "sick" there HAS to be some codes set.

Yes, having it professionally scanned will cost some bucks, but so does throwing random parts at it.

Fluid was dirty but no debris. Stays in low gear with engine reving to about 3k then then might shift up or may have to let off the gas and start over again to get it to shift up.

I cant remember the guys name that use to be on here. He was from SD and farmed. He was the IH guy, the transmission guy and could sing. One he said that sometimes the fuel filter gets plugged and it makes you push down more on the gas and the throttle position sensor throws the computer shift points all out of wack. I actually told a kid about that when he said he needed a new transmission and i told him to do that and that fixed it. Follow up needed.

4L60E trans. Sun shell was not hardened. Next to go will be reverse. Been there 2 times. A Jimmy and a Firebird. $35 part but have to do complete teardown to get to it. Did it once myself. Went ahead and changed clutches and band while in there. Didn't need them, just the shell. But i was that deep anyway. Inside spline strips because the didn't harden it. Once it gets a little warm it expands just enough to let the spline slip on the hardened sun gear. All kinds of reading on gm truck and car foums. Most trans shops have them laying around ready to go in. Did that on the Jimmy. Dropped off my trans and got a rebuilt.

Sun shell is broken, has to rev 1st high, then jumps to 3rd. There will be no 4th or Reverse. Transmission rebuild time.
