This week, Thursday, the local Cat dealer (T & E, Tractor and Equipment)
is having an open house celebrating 90 years of Caterpillar. They asked
any of our members to bring any old Cats they might have. Not sure what
might show up!! The club has a Holt engine out of an early crawler that was
converted to sawmill power. Couple guys overhauled it, mounted it on a cart
(BIG cart!) for show and tell. It runs very well. When the Cat dealer
heard about it, they said they will gladly transport it to their show and
back to our grounds.
Not sure if there are any pic's of it on our web site: antiquetractorclub.com
Anyway I plan on going to the show.
Any local YT-er's going let me know!!

Where is this at? I would love to have the D-4 in condition to take to a few shows around here. The Old No.6 traxcavator would be fun too. I could haul both in the same load if needed. Would be a load too. Might have to leave the blade for the D-4 though would not be a problem. Have had it on and off many times and is not much of a job.

There was a large Cat show in Los Angeles. My Wife and Daughter attended. Two Days of kitty cats. My Dad had an old caterpillar, I think it was called a 2 Ton. When Dad was in his early stages of Alzheimer's. Someone came buy and offered him a very low price, and took the Cat, and Cletrac. Another way to look at is, the tractors are probably restored. The tractors would still be sitting in the same spot if they didn't come along 25 years ago. Stan

Sorry, I forgot to mention it is a few miles west of Billings Mt.
It's right next to I-90 and there is an exit very close.

This was at Kinzer this past week. Don't know the whole story but the original engine was totaled. He installed another just a bit newer. Different colors so you know what is what. People just love it. Looks darn impressive too. Notice the tiny pony engine.

Wheat I'm in MI little far for a show. Do like Montana though just have to stay away from Missoula. Spnt a bit of time around Hardin and Billings though. Used to cut wheat at the Toluca exit then drive south to those bins back there you could see from the the interstate about 2 miles.

Sixty diesel conversion. If I am not mistaken, this is an early D8800 4 cylinder, it would have exposed push rods on the other side. The 2 cylinder starting engine on this engine was the most common one used, it was used on the 3 cylinder Forty, later the RD-6 and early D6 tractors, 2H series I believe. Also used on the RD7, D7, diesel 75, RD8, and D8 series tractors with D13000 engines. Mid 30's to mid 50's is the approximate production run. They like a good fuel supply and hot spark to run right. I always thought they were marginal for the D8800 engine, but seeing they were also designed for the same engine with an additional 2 cylinders, must be more to that. They need to be running perfectly for best performance and there is no better cold start option in my opinion, properly tuned these start easily by hand and once running, it was always said if you can get the pony running, the diesel is sure to start.

I have to wonder if this particular tractor was formerly George Howard's, GWH over on ACMOC. Pretty sure he had one of these diesel conversions in that condition.
