IH 550-650 forage harvester?

Does anyone know if the heads interchange between an IH 550 and a 650? I found a direct cut head for a 650 and would like to use it on a 550 that I am looking at. Both machines are to far away to do any measuring. Thanks Tom
 
I don't have an IH reference to back me up but I have seen every two row IH chopper in the neighborhood and it seems the heads cross fit from the 650 on back to the 550, 55, and 50. The one row specific units such as the 16 and the 350 I don't believe can be made to fit the 2 row machines. I'll try to investigate further but that is what my memory tells me.
 
That is what I thought as well. The 350 was a smaller throat. Did you ever see a 650 that was a cut and throw? There is one coming up for sale near me and it is defiantly a 650 but does not have the seperate blower assembly. At first I thought is was a 550 but closer inspection showed it is a 650. Tom
 
Just the 650 cut and blow. The one neighbor had the newer PU unit with the close teeth on a 55 years ago. He also had the corn head from our 50 on his 55 while his corn head was waiting on parts one year. He was going to put a 2 row off of a 720 on the 55 but he quit milking cows before he got around to it. I remember around 15 years ago I took the back way into Geneva and someone was cleaning out a barn. A 650 forage harvester, 400 cycle planter, and 550 plow sitting outside and looking like they were delivered brand new.
 
I can't find the manual, but I recall the cover depicting two 650's. A recutter-blower & a direct throw. If I get time tonight, I'll look. I have a sneakin' suspicion that head interchangeability was covered in the service manual, tho. Might poke pete23 & see if he recalls.

Can't find the darned thing. Wasn't in the usual pile on the shelf. I did take a gander at the Case IH tech pub's store & it lists the 2rn head as being interchangeable between the 50, 55, 550, 555, 650. So, I would say yes.
