Moles in the yard

Hi, we just moved to a home we purchased in High Ridge, MO
And we are being plagued by moles rooting around in the grassy areas
Of the yard , especially the back yard.
How do I subvert/Divert these creatures from my yard?
It is bad enough that I will need a small garden tractor to undo their damage.
What suggestions have you been successful, with?
Thanks for responding soon, I?m running out of beer watching them😁

Keeping moles out of your yard is like trying to keep grass from growing in a gravel driveway. Lose, Lose.

If you put chemicals on lawn or drive, the chemicals might get in your well. Is it really worth it?

About the only thing I have had very good success with here in MI are those Victor scissor traps. The key is proper use; I have to flatten out all the tunnels and re-check them in an hour or two to see which are currently active. Then "saturation trap" the localized area meaning 3 traps or more. I can usually bag them in less than one day. One caution; These traps are expensive ($15 a piece) so I had to put chains on them and stake them to the ground. If I didn't the coyotes would come in at night and dig up the trapped mole and run off with it along with my trap.

Spiked mole killing traps work. To get them all requires engagement with the resetting of the trap. Poison Peanuts placed in active runs works. Getting rid of Grubs in the top soil works. All three are a good bet used together. Jim

That must be why I am so weird. I put chemicals on our vegi garden surrounding my well. A wild hair grows from my skin once in a while. HeHe----------Loren

Getting rid of moles is very easy. Just get grub killer and apply according to the instructions. When I put it on it usually last for three years. I put it on this last spring and it just occurred to me a few days ago that I haven't seen any evidence of having any this summer. I have been using the grub killer for 25 years. I used to use a product called milky spores which is a natural grub killer, but my local hardware stopped selling it. Trapping is good if you need a hobby.

King,
I don't use any chemicals on lawn, including fertilizer, weed killer and I have wild hairs growing all over.

Part of my yard is weeds and the part that is zoysia grass. We went without rain for 2 weeks. The weed part of lawn looks like crap. Zoysia grass has no weeds and is a green carpet. After frost, the zoysia grass will turn brown and the weeds will be green. So either you love zoysia or you hate it.

BYW, moles don't pop up in zoysia. It a thick mass of roots.

I needed to plant grass where I removed evergreens. I hired a friend to run my 12 inch ryan Jr 12 inch sod cutter. It shakes too much for my arthritis. Went to back yard and had him cut 250 ft of zoysia leaving strips of zoysia behind that will grow back. I rolled up the zoysia, put it in front bucket of terramite and moved it to where I needed sod. Unrolled sod, job was done. Instant lawn. No plugs for me. I soaked the sod many times and drove lawn mover over it to pack it in mud.

Milky spore works and stays in the ground for a long time. We used it back in the 80s and didn't have a mole problem till lately and getting worse each year. It's kind of hard to find now. I read that it has to be made from live grubs somehow so most sources stopped making it.

This is what I used last year, little worms, when I had a mole problem. It worked great! They did not come back this year, maybe I got all the breeders. This link is one example of where to get it.

I have them at place near Roscoe Mo. My daughter had them when she lived at Cainsville Mo. Had them at Dewey Ok,dad would gas them with rototiller engine, rigged pipe and stuck in tunnell

Moles are eradicating something worse in your yard than them... Jap beetles. They burrow inand eat the beetle eggs or larvee
But its your yard not mine

Got rid of all my moles on five acres using Talprid - comes in a tray and looks like gummy worms. Locate a runway about six inches from the mound and open a hole just big enough to drop a Talprid down (don't touch it as they won't eat anything with human smell) and cover the hole. Last one I had was four years ago. Neighbor's yard is full of them but none here.
