Grain bin painters - a new one - rubber based aluminum paint

The grain bin painters from North Carolina did a bin w/roof and just a bin roof for me last summer. They had painted for people I know so they had a good reputation. I was very satisfied with their work and it looks good a year later. Late this afternoon a couple guys stopped in while I was filling a grain truck and they wanted to paint a couple grain bin roofs. The roofs are not bad, but the safety rings are rusty and the caps have some spots. They said they were using a rubber based product rather than a tar based aluminum paint. I said I had never heard of it. Anyone one had similar guys use this rubber based aluminum paint product? They said I could probably get 10 years out of the paint. Tar based painters last year said I could get 7 out of theirs. There is probably good money painting roofs and grain bins even though they only wanted $300 a bin for the roofs. The products are probably as good as they come, but it really just doesn't take all that much product when you are spraying silver paint! These guys weren't they typical "travelers". They had very, very dark skin and said their ancestors were from India. It was interesting that they were from North Carolina just like the guys last year. Anyway, anyone ever heard of the rubber based aluminum paint? Thanks

No I haven?t.

We had an India fella come around long time ago, was unusual.

Get the typical fellas from Tennessee with license plates from Texas nearly every year too. Their tar paint has fallen off some in quality, while I realize they are the bottom feeder types in general their aluminum/ tar paint used to be pretty good. Guess they had to cut corners as well......

"they wanted to paint a couple grain bin roofs"

WANTED???

At that point they would have been told to leave my property and I would have called the sheriff and let him know that there were "operators" in the area looking to take advantage of folks without the balls to send them down the road.

Over 20 years ago, pair of fellas showed op, and wanted to paint our barn roofs, on my barn and the barn on my dad?s place. $500. Each and they would screw down any loose spots first. I said go ahead, roof needed to be painted, and these guys looked like they needed the work. Anyway a local guy always painted the roof on dad?s barn, and it lasted about 5-6 years, then it needed to be painted again, the last time he painted he charged $800. These guys showed up when they said they would, did the work, and 20 years later it still looks good. Their paint had tar in it, the local guys paint didn?t. Never heard of paint with rubber in it. Perhaps you should try it once

The Carolina painters that work my area of ohio now have ohio plates on there trucks. They drive new trucks with a custom built gas tank in the bed. It?s about a foot tall and covers most of the bed. They cover it with junk so you can?t see it. I?ve caught them pumping gas into there paint.

That sounds like travel trailer roof paint. I wouldn't use it on a steel roof. It looks good on the outside while it greatly enhances the environment for rust. It will speed the rusting unless you clean up and "kill" the rust first.

Pete Costello, I hear they use the same names a lot.

He was a quiet slower older gentleman, well actually his dad came around and painted for my dad. As we were told, anyhow. Often times his helper (did all the work) would get done and be sitting on the place for an hour or so. I was sure to stay and chat, never had any troubles along those lines. The helper typically had an interesting life, and stories. They were fun to hear for a northern guy like me.

He hasn?t been around for a couple years, he missed one year when his wife was ill, then he slowed down it seemed and I?m sure he?s retired now?

Quite the talker, but not real pushy he knew when to stop. Had to wait for his third offer tho, every time.
