My wife and I took a drive two hours north of us to Northeast Tractor Salvage in Lyons, NE and picked up a gas tank for one of my H's.

Not much paint on it, so it should match the rest of the tractor. But it's perfectly clean inside. I checked it out with a penlight before I bought it. Charged me $150. Didn't think that was too bad. Several on EBay were price at $250 to $300 with close to $60 shipping, plus you wouldn't have the option of checking them out first.

The plating inside the original tank on this tractor began to deteriorate 15-20 years ago. I used a liner kit on it then, and now the liner is deteriorating and plugging the sediment bowl as fast as I can clean it. I maybe could have gotten by a bit cheaper by trying to clean it and put another liner in it, but how much time can you spend messing around with something like this when you need to use the tractor?

Northeast is OK to deal with. The place isn't too long on looks, but I've always been well satisfied with my dealings.

Well Goose I think that the $150 is money well spent over the liner kits. I have had mixed results with those kits. I try to follow the directions to the letter and some last while others do not.

As for the appearance of the salvage yard. I like my junk yards to look like a junk yard. LOL The fancy, all cleaned up and organized ones usually are more expensive on their parts.

I have bought a few parts from them also. Mostly red and it is not a large yard but the owner let us roam around to see if there was more we needed:)Daughter and SIL live in Beemer just west of there. good find on the gas tank.

I used to go past that yard when I was hauling equipment to Oklahoma on the harvest. Boy did I ever want to stop there. The rest of the crew got to know this, so every time we went past that yard someone would come on the two way and say "no Jim we cant stop there". LOL

Not too many tractor wrecking yards out here where I live, but we have auto salvage yards that let you roam around and look for parts. Then you have to pull your own part. They have hoists for pulling engines also. Stan
