Off topic: Tornado sirens....

All,

Dangit, my dog was howling and I could not figure why. It turns out that the siren, not even a quarter mile away was going off for some kind of weather, I guess. I can hear the dog bark, but did not hear a whisper of that siren.

Wear hearing protection, please. You don't want to be me. Dumb dog, I usually say, but not this time.

I carry and wear those sponge ear plugs all of the time. Loud engines sound cool but they sure can rip the crap out of your hearing. WEAR PROTECTION!!!!

Farmallmaniac,

Yes sir, but it doesn't look bad, however, my television is not getting reception, and I am too much of a dummy to use a "smart" phone. Basement it is for me.

Too late for me too. Was working at a customers house and a neighbor came out and I heard "What are you doing" and I went on to explain. He just asked "How are you doing". He was understanding though, I think he was harder hearing than me.

May have been the funnel reported around Goodhue.

x2 on the hearing protection. After years of loud equipment, various amplified instruments & a drum kit, concerts and roady-ing.... and in general, being loud, I can not expound, enough, the values of hearing protection. It's getting to the point my selective hearing needs an aide.

That was some weird weather this afternoon. Was getting the combine out of the shed, and saw a really dark blue cloud, had been sunny and clear a half hour before. Then heard a crack of thunder, loud and close. Went to the house to look at radar, two bad cells on both sides of me. And tornado warnings here and there from tiny cells.

Never rained here, but maybe 2 miles either side of me.

I finally gave up on the one combine, swapped headers onto the big combine, and got out to combine at 6:00. What a day. Dang electrical gremlins, I?m bad with those and single handed they really are hard to find and fix.

I drove right through the storm leaving St Peter on highway 99. With the rain and hail it was almost zero visibility for about five minutes. Then all sun again. Weird little storm.

Our siren is almost exactly one-half mile from my house, as the Google maps flies. NO way you wouldn't hear it. It serves as a warning siren for the nuclear plant and weather alert.

Old fella who farmed next door when I was a kid was plane mechanic in the service, he was at Pearl Harbor the morning of the attack. All those years of plane engines and farm machinery took his hearing. I used to be able to hear my Grandpa "talking" to him at his milking barn about a half mile away on quiet mornings.

I got a funny story involving one of those sirens.
I drove the daughters car to work one day and when I went to lunch at the stop light up the road just as I was braking I starting hearing a god awful noise ! Immediately I wondered what was wrong with these brakes ! Well then it occurred to me the car was fine it was the siren starting up I was hearing ! lol.
