My horse barn is a pole type barn as in my machine shed and shop. Machine shed and horse barn are wood poles and th shop is a combo of wood on one side and steel posts on the other side.

Unless you are thinking of building one very large they are simple to do. You start getting up around 40' wide it's a lot more difficult to do out of wood. I had one fail that was 40' wide because I got an accumulation of 3" of sheet one night. Never expected that in the Dallas area. Got up early in the morning and saw it and I went to get dressed to go out and shore up the building and heard it fall while I was putting my shoes on.

Not sure what all this 40 is getting wide about. We have one that is 40 wide been there for close to 50 years now. No problems. They regularly build pole barns 60 wide here that are clear span meaning no poles in the 60 feet of width. And longer than 80 feet. The slope is the critical factor with truss distance for holding the snow load or weight.

I'm not dumb enough to tackle it myself. 60x104x16. 20' split sliding doors on each end. Amish crew started Monday morning. Should be done this afternoon or tomorrow mid morning.
