Unbelieveable...coppertop shows up....

I can hardly believe it. For those that don't know, there's a neighbor kid that strays in and out. He's a redhead. Thus the nickname. I could hardly see him as he is, he's a young man, not the young under-teen when I met him.

We had a cool drink, probably lemonade, heck I van hardly remember what. It was a wonderful visit. If you don't know, well, we got along quite nicely, and my darling misses will be happy he strolled in. Nothing he asked for, just a good chat. Man, I like that.

Well, I wasn't a copper top but I used to visit Mr. Kramer next door all the time when I grew up. Him and his wife had no kids and they welcomed a vistor any time at all. He was a handyman kind of guy and always had some kind of a project on the go in his garage so I would drop by several times every week. And then Mrs. Kramer (Ethyl) would bring me out a plate of cookies and a glass of milk. Never called her Ethyl (like so many kids do nowadays). I remember when one of the neighborhood kids called my dad Pete, I almost crapped my pants.

Great song Crazy Horse!

Heard it live by the original author, Guy Clark, several times. RIP Guy...

Listened to the Jerry Jeff, Viva Terlingua 8 track so many times... Knew every note by heart!

Special memory, going on a field trip with a bunch of us from high school auto mechanics class, early one morning, stopped at a place called "The Green Frog Cafe" in Jacksboro, Texas!

I don't think anyone else in the group even knew what I was so excited about, but it sure made my day!

For several years I used to deer hunt at a lease on Squaw Mountain Road north of Jacksboro, I have eaten at the Green Frog plenty of times.

Nice post.
I do remember your stories about him.
If you can, just be his friend.
I came out of a very abusive home. In today's world probably criminally so. There were two older men who made a big difference in my life.
Mr. Bokovoy and Mr. Miller. They liked kids and saw the good in me. They could laugh. They were patient. They could correct without resorting to terror.
Though it's been nearly 50 years since we palled around I still think of them and am grateful to them. Coppertop may not ever get the chance to thank you. So let me do it for him.
Thank you.

Great to read an update, I can recall when you first posted about him, now I can't recall how long ago. I like what Jerry said, having had and known others with a bad home life, there is no doubt what a difference a positive influence can have by someone who takes the time and fosters the good friendship a person may need to help build a solid foundation.
