Went out and put a good battery in the DB,it turned over about 2 times and fired right up.Runs a little rough sounds like one injector is misfiring some.Everything else seems to
work OK,hydrastatic steering is real nice works great.I may have to get an injector and I'll take off the fuel tank and clean it but it does run and operate. Not too bad for having sat for 10 years.

Add a couple of quarts of ATF to 5 gallons of diesel fuel run that thru the system see if it helps. AFT is high in detergent and may clean things up a bit. I have tried it with success hope it works for you too.

Good thing there was no money involved with my guess of 10% chance of success in your other post. :D My cynicism comes from my 4020 with stuck plungers after 10 years, and my son is now working on a 580 Case with stuck plungers after about 12 years of non use.

I had one of those twenty years ago. It was a very strong and economical tractor and worked well once you got your boots past those two sticks.

Glad it worked out, always nice when they come back to life.

Local guy had his diesel Chevy Chevette towed to the consignment sale some time back, had been sitting for about 20 years. Spent most of the sale working on it, became something of a mini-event, lots of people watching as he tried in vain to get it running. Bought a new battery, then pulled apart the fuel lines/injectors or whatever's up there. Was a little poorer and a lot dirtier by the time it came up for sale. Almost fetched $300 which was a surprise. Looked like what you'd expect a Chevette to look like after sitting outside for 20 years.

Pull the exhaust manifold so you can see which cylinder is miss firing. Take that injector out and swap it with one where the cylinder does not miss fire. See if the miss stays with the cylinder or the injector. A good tune up would also be good.

I did add some ATF to the fuel and let it run about 2 hrs this afternoon its running a lot better, wiring is all apart so with the Lucas alternator think I'll just go with a
Delco 1 wire, looked on my parts DB 780 and it has a bracket on it made to fit a Delco.Has great steering too.Guess I got my $700 worth.

I use an infrared temp gun on the exhaust manifold, you have to be quick but you can find out which cylinder is not firing. Got mine years ago at Harbor Freight on sale for about $30. Money well spent

I would dump the Lucas system too. Unless the tractor is minty, it's just a pain in the neck. Add real water temp/voltage or ammeter and oil pressure gauges. The idiot lights are okay I guess but they don't tell you anything.

Lucas Alternators dubbed the Prince of Darkness when used on Triumph motorcycles. Lucas also made refrigerators.....maybe that's why the Brits drink warm beer!
