What are the Odds?

Picked up a David Brown 885 today,had been sitting in a shed and not started in almost exactly 10 years.Supposedly it was running fine and the owner at that point was going to
redo it whatever that means took off the sheet metal which is in excellent shape.So what are the odds I put I in fuel and a battery and it'll crank up and run? I'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Try turning it over at least one revolution by hand before hooking up the battery....may avoid breaking something. If it does roll over, I bet it will start!

The odds are pretty good it fires up. I bought a JD 2040 that had been sitting several years 7 or 8 they said . Bought it and a bushhog brand 6 foot brush cutter, hardly used 7 foot box blade, potato plow for 2500 bucks. Front tire was dry rotted and flat the other front was flat both rears dry rotted and flat but took air i put the jumper cables on it while i was pumping up the 3 tires that would take air and added 5 gallon of fuel. Turned the key and it fired right up. You could see the mouth drop open and blood drain out of the guys face cause he sold it so cheap and it fired right up. Great find for me for sure. So good luck with your good find.

If it's gas, I would put some oil in the cylinders and spin it through first.

If diesel, have a plan in place to choke it down, just in case...

My 7700 combine sat for 20 years up in my uncles field where he left it for dead put a new battery and 5 gallon of Diesel in it and primed it and it started just like it had ran the day before .

I bought 5 DB 3 cylinders last fall that had been sitting outside 10-15 years. 3 of the 5 started with just a pull start. One had to have the fuel filters replaced as they had rusted out. On still needs torn down, but I suspect it had problems when parked.

My father use to say;

Better to be born without a ___ (private part) than without luck.

If you're feeling lucky and take a few precautions I would expect it will start right up for you.
