Bumps on steers shoulders

What could be causing these lumps on my steers shoulders. I have several with these. Just noticed them yesterday.

I seem to remember there is a cut off date for treating cattle with warbles of the end of summer (end of August)
If you treat after this date it can paralyze or kill the cow.
Maybe one of these guys that are more current on new medications can comment on this as I no longer have cattle.

The lump looks to large to be warbles. Have you treated the cattle with Ivomac?? If you did them they should not have warbles.

Can you touch the steers??? I wonder if it is an abscess. If you can touch the steers you can feel if the lump is filled with liquid. I used to get steers with them when they would rub on wood that had splinters.

Either of these will devalue the hind and effect the sale price of the steer.

Here is a picture of warbles. These are high on the back, so they are close to breaking open.

Have they been given any shots there?
Some vaccines will cause a reaction. Or a
dirty needle could prompt a reaction as
well.

No vaccines in the last 4-5 months. I treated them with Ivermectin Pour-on. How long until the lumps go away?

That's half correct. But it's not warbles that are a worry. Warbles are under the skin and pose no real threat. But there are certain larvae that can occasionally end up near the brain or spinal column that can cause major problems or death if killed at the wrong stage of development. I think it's in the winter months in most areas like you say, but can't recall for sure.

This particular bumps, to me, don't look like warbles. But maybe it's just the pics. I could guess horse fly bites.

The bumps from giving shots can linger
for at least a few months, though I
cannot say for sure how long.

What does your Vet say?

I should add that sometimes horse flies
or other insects can bite and cause
swellings that will eventually go away as
well.

Are warbles what we call grubs here in my neck of the woods? Dad poured a systemic on a bull that had what we call grubs and the bull dropped to its knees for awhile. Dad was afraid he had killed the bull but it got back up and was OK in the end.

I thought about horsefly bites but this is the first time I have seen this.
