Got the C50 water pump pulled

Just like described...well maybe I had to take off a few more things than I had heard. PS pulley was in the way, but otherwise mostly as described. It is really difficult when you have never taken something apart, and the thing you are working on has value to you, so I spent a good 4-5 hours working my way thru it and taking pictures and making notes. Otherwise I will never remember how to put it all back. NAPA has the pump in stock here locally...what kind of miracle is that?!? So Monday I will put it all back together. Have to stand on scaffold to reach it.

The scaffolding is a great idea! I am surprised at some of the parts NAPA has in stock for older vehicles. I also take photos as I take things apart just in case I forget. I have a 1985 C60 dump truck with 83,000 miles on it. I don't use it to often but the old girl fires up every time. I do keep a battery tender on it and Sta-Bil in the fuel.

I use an old junk refrigerator for a scaffold. Door is off & stripped of all working parts to make it light. Flip it & it makes a bin for odds & ends. Its the perfect height.

What I do when I change a water pump;

Set the new pump down where you are working and as you remove a bolt place it in the hole of the new pump.

Keep going until the pump is off and all the bolts are stored.

Next set the old pump down and transfer all the bolts into it.

Finish installing the new pump one bolt at a time and you will never mix up the bolts.

I saw it happen where someone installed a water pump on a freshly rebuilt Chrysler slant 6, all the bolts went in and tightened up.

A week later the engine had to be pulled again as one of the water pump bolts was in the wrong spot and just long enough to put pressure on the outer wall of cylinder #1 causing it to distort and wreck the rings.
