Our Family has a Case 2590. 1979. that my Uncle has had in his shed for years; my cousin is selling it and ask me to get it
running. We tried last week...fuel in tank...so I pumped the primer to get pressure...new batteries...it tried to fire but no
luck. So...I loosened first two injector lines on the pump...while he cranked it and gave it a couple small shots(starting fluid)
while cranking. It did run for maybe 30 seconds then died...tried again and then it took off ....not on stating fluid and would
not shut down! He pulled the pull cable and still wouldn't stop running... finally it did die after about a minute. What might be
wrong? I'm sure I did not use too much starting fluid. Im half way scarred tot try again!

You just learned the hard way, NEVER start a diesel with an inline pump that's been setting awhile WITHOUT making sure the plunger control rack is free. Only takes one stuck plunger to keep the rack from moving as it should. Just finished repairing a Deutz inline pump for the same trouble, rack was stuck.

Loren, happened to me 40 years ago on a 930 that I had just overhauled. I had to stand beside it and take the fuel line off before it would quit. There is a two sided cap on the front of the pump that takes a 3/4 wrench to loosen. Take it off and see if the rack moves easily. Has to move easy, not sticky. Have got them freed up without taking them to a shop. Give me a call...605.881.3042.

When we do first start we always have a clip board in one hand to slide over the air intake to snuff it out if it wants to "run wild"---Tee
