9N won't turn over

Im brand new to this forum, though am hopeful some experts will chime in on ideas and recommendations !
I have a Ford 9N that wont start, wont even turn over.
It was just fine until I loaned it to my son in law, now nuthin'.
Im a fast learner, so That won't happen again. Its dead when I attempt to start it, though starts right up when I jump it from another battery, although dies right away when I disconnect the jumper cables. The battery was the first thought I had, so replaced that (it was old so was up for replacement). Despite replacement, same issue. So, I had the alternator checked, and replaced it too. Still, same issue. Seems like a bad ground to me. Ive checked continuity with a volt-meter and everything checks out fine (I get full 12v+ readings at every ground location I can trace). Not sure where else to look. Any thoughts ?

have you checked the battery cables?? need shiny clean connections. many times a cable will corrode inside and not see it. need a starting point.

Have you had the new battery tested. I have had many brand new batteries bad right off he shelve. If it fires up when your jumping it but dies when you unhook the jumper to me tat says the all the connection other then maybe the battery connection are good.

Remove connections... clean matting surfaces with Emery Cloth....

Voltage readings appearing okay when there's no load doesn't tell the whole story. Its ONLY when drawing current you can get a V = I x R voltage drop.

I would remove, clean n wire brush bright n shiny, each and every battery and starter and switch and ground connection then try it.

Rd welcome to YT! Even though I suspect a connection has failed somewhere I am interested in the brand of alternator that you are using and the connections to it. Even if your battery is dead or very low on charge generally a working alternator will supply the system with the voltage needed to continue running. Mostly asking because you tractor was originally equipped with a 6 volt system and has apparently been converted to 12 volts and one never knows if these wiring connections are proper. If you are using what is referred to as a one wire alternator sometimes those require revving the engine higher to energize the changing circuit. This would possibly explain some of the trouble you are having. Please give us some feed back when you get your issue figured out. Always gives some satisfaction to the time spent replying to questions on the forums. Thanks

If you can jump start it,is this with the pushbutton switch or shorting the stater switch under the battery? I found the ring on the push button on one was brken on 2 sides so it would not push the fork for the rod to push the switch. Also since it has been converted to 12 volt if it has a ballast resistor in the line someplace has it been checked? If it goes bad it will start and run as long as the starter is engaged to bypass the resistor.

If it is stuck the engine WILL NOT turn over less try to start. Years ago I had to loosen the starter many a time. New ring gear was installed and has not stuck since in over 30 years.
