bought a 421 oliver sickle mower awhile back. went to hook up my hydraulics to the 960 ford. hyd fittings were different. replace them and the cylinders works fine. grease it all up, replace a blown tire and went to hook it up but ran into a problem. drive shaft wont go on the pto. it will start on ut only goe couple inches. don't see any burrs. looks clean, removed the locking pin to make sure it wasn't the problem. I have hooked up several times to this tractor before with other pto drives but I seem to be having a problem that I cant determine on this. I would think the pto would be the same. what do you think.

I would clean everything up and take a careful look at it, but I wouldn't think there would be an internal burr. Have you tried a different driveshaft on the tractor recently? You could just pull the driveshaft apart and carry it over to a different tractor, yours or a neighbors. If you find a burr you could clean it up with a small file, and then lubricate everything well.

Possibly a slight twist in the splines of the coupler or the tractors pto shaft, you can check them by sliding a snug fitting piece of keystock through them.

Use a stick whittled to a spline shape and a cotton rag put abrasive on the rag with some thick oil. polish out the shaft coupler splines. If rust/dirt comes out with the polish, you know you are on the right track. Jim

finally got it on. mowed around the ponds. not sure what I did. just different day I guess. thanks to all
