Water pump noise?

I'm getting a chirping/warbling sound form the front of my WD45. Pretty sure its the water pump going bad but wanted to check with guys who know this stuff better than I do before I start tearing in to it. Is that sound typical of a bad pump? Thanks
 
I don't know what you have. But I always removed the belt and turned the fan or pulley by hand. Most of the time you could hear the
bearings in the fan drive. You can also check the side play.
 
Take the fan belt off or loosen it up and then grab the fan and see if it has any wobble to it or side to side play. If it does it is going bad and you best replace it before it eats the radiator
 
While the belt is off, start it up, listen for the sound.

If it's gone, that narrows it down to the pump, the alternator/generator, or belt.

Also feel for slack or wobble on the crank pulley.
 
If you think you can safely put some pressure on the belt with it running with a piece of wood or something to tighten it it
might make it better or worse, might narrow it down. I had a Dodge truck once that made a chirping noise, my friend told me it
was the water pump. I sprayed some belt dressing on it and the sound went away, it was just the belt slipping.
 
Could be the water pump could be the generator or
alternator pull the belt off and turn both by hand and
see which one turns hard and wiggle them and see
if there is play
 
Usually a leaking pump causes the
bearings to go bad. Look for a leak if
you think its the pump.
 
Look at your fan shaft. Probably already wobbling. Bearings out as others stated. Time for a new/rebuilt one.
 
Get a broom handle or a long socket extension hold it to the water pump housing then press your ear to the other end. You can do the same to the
generator or alternator you will hear where the noise is coming from.Be careful not to let the handle get into anything that is moving.
