You guys that miss bales when changing twine balls. A few years ago when that was the only time my old 65 would miss bales I realized the hole in the needle where the twine goes through had a V wore in it. From the miles of twine that had slid through it over the years. That's where my knot was getting caught. So I brazed the V shut and smoothed it out with a file. It helped dramatically. Now I change balls 9 out of 10 times without incident. If you get a chance to compare your needle with a new one, you would be surprised how bad yours is worn.

The thing that amazes me is how out of almost 10,000 feet or twine the knot always seems find it?s way at the exact right time to get hung on the bill hook or some other combination or other wise impossible things to happen . Yet I can?t win the power ball ?? But your splice between two balls of twine will get screwed up about 2 of 3 times changing balls ?

I have to take mine off every other year and do the some thing. The plastic twine really cuts into them. I am lucky I have a neighbor that welds cracked heads so I just drop mine and he heats them and brazes them up nice for me. the good thing is the cost, fresh sweet corn and grade the snow off his lot, I would that anyway!

My grandpa always found a dab of grease somewhere on the baler and would "grease" the knot after he tied it.
