SI 10 Delco alternator

I have a Delco SI10 two wire alternator installed on a Fordson Major Diesel tractor that charges until the exciter circuit is open.

What puzzles me is that I have the exact same system on another Fordson Major Diesel tractor that continues to charge when the exciter circuit is open.

What should I be looking for?

n input to terminal #1 is only necessary to get it to begin charging. After that, the Diode Trio inside the 10SI provides that field current. If that is the behavior that you are seeing, then, replace the diode trio.

Thanks JMOR and old, I thought it might be the diode trio or the regulator. I any case, time to use it as a core.
