farmall h flooded carb

I have a Farmall H that seems to want to flood itself out but only on hot days. This usually happens with little or no choke, and is worse the hotter the outdoor temp is. Does anyone have an idea what may be causing this? I m a little new to this, so I m hoping for a little help on where to start.

Is the gas cap vent clear ? Just a theory, but, if the fuel warms from ambient temp., it is possible that pressure is overwhelming the needle and float. Just a thought. HTH

need to explain that better. only on startup? or once running floods also? I know my w4's take very little choke. one starts with no choking.

Yes, only on startup.

I agree, try loosening the gas cap.

Even if the cap says it's vented, it may be stuck or clogged.

Also make sure the fuel line is routed as far from the exhaust as practical.

Might want to take a look at the ignition system too. Hard to say without being there to see what's happening, but it is normal for an updraft to drip gas following a failed start.

If the spark is too weak to fire, which can happen if the coil is heating up, or the starter is dragging, taking too many amps away from the ignition, either can result in poor hot starting.

If the ignition system is good as it should be and it doesn't pass enough gas to flood when running it should start fast enough before it would flood. My vote is the ignition system.

Cold, I do NOT choke either of my H's until after they've fired. Then just enough choke to keep them running.

After they've warmed up, the choke is a big no-no.

Check over your wiring. As Steve mentioned if your not getting a good current to the coil you spark will be weak and it could be slow to start. A number twelve uninterrupted with no butt splices from ignition to the coil. We were having a similar problem until were got rid of all the old wiring and splices. gobble

We have had several Hs over the years. One would stat without choke if you just looked at it funny, another wouldnt start at all
if you didnt choke the crap out of it. Most would only need a short, quick pull of the choke to start. My I4 is finicky. Sometimes
it will start without choke, sometimes needs choked a few revolutions before it will start.
