HELP Hard to find wrist pin bushings for a Huber

This is a 1937 Huber model B with a Buda hp205

I have found most of the parts to hopefully finish putting my motor together but having a hard time finding the wrist pin bushings. I have been searching till my eyes are crossing.

The measurements I have are
Bushing OD 1.376
Pin OD 1.130
Bushing length 1.253

I am assuming I could be a little smaller on the pin diameter and have it bored when installed? And the length could be longer and have it trimmed down. If anyone has any ideas on one that would interchange or a place that could make what I need I would greatly appreciate it.

I needed a cam bushing for an antique single I was working on, took the cam and old bushing to a machine shop, he made me one that worked great.

Have you checked with an automotive/truck/industrial engine machine shop?

Wrist pin bushings are somewhat specialized, and must be installed and honed to final size, extremely critical that they be the exact clearance and perpendicular to the rod.

They can probably find something that will work, or oversize the rod bore to fit an existing bushing, fit everything together for you.

I have talked to a couple machine shops but none want to do it.

Gosh, I'd think there'd be some resources out there for NOS Buda parts, but if absolutely a dead end there, are you aware that Sealed Power and other engine parts suppliers publish catalogs with "progressive size lists" for various engine components?

If you can find a REAL auto parts store or automotive machine shop that's been around a while they should have such a catalog an a dusty shelf in the back somewhere.

Good bearing stores carry various brass bushing
stock.id think you could find a size that is
close and have them machined,or get solid round
stock,turn od install cut id

Bob

The two machine shops that I talked to "looked" in their books and couldn t find anything. I looked online yesterday with no luck but I will talk to my parts guy today they have tons of old books in the back.

We do have a IBT here in town I will check with them but then It will be the problem of finding a machine shop that will do it.

Ok I had a place order me some of these that are within .001 of what I measured for the outside diameter. The inside will need to be honed out a scosh and have the oil hole added. Hopefully this material will work for what I need.

Are you sure the bushings you ordered are the correct material.
This has some info.

Nope they are not going to work. Back to looking I guess. I m bout ready to scrap the original engine and just do a small block Chevy

Rockjeep, Don't give up just yet. Do you know of anything else that used that engine? Allis Chalmers of some sort?

Rockjeep,
Here is old post about Buda, HP205

How worn are the piston pins in the pistons ? or did you find some new pistons ?
I ask because if they are loose in the pistons and rods perhaps you could find a pin that would be slightly oversized ? I did that on an unstyled JD B.

I asked around on another web site and got a couple of suggestions.

Some of the old Cletrac crawlers used Buda engines. A good source for those tractor parts is Zimmerman Oliver Cletrac in Ephrata, PA. 717-738-2573

If he doesn't have anything at least he might be able to point you in the right direction.

Another suggestion is to buy bronze stock and turn to required press fit and semi finish the ID, then have them honed after press fit. Of course, you will need to track down a good engine machine shop first and you're going to have to pay the price...it's not a really complicated job. Get on the web and find an engine machine shop that specializes in antique engines.

From what I can tell nothing else used this motor. They used them for power plants and well pumps.

They are not really worn. The bushings just have a little more slack than I would like to put them together

I found out that Crower cams will custom make the bushings at a very reasonable price. They have saved my day.
