Any Massey Ferguson owners out there?

I have verbally committed by phone to buy a 1996 Massey Ferguson 231 with front end loader tomorrow afternoon. I?ve only seen about 8 pics of it on Facebook, always kept in barn, little over 400 hours on it. It?s only about 12 miles from the house but the owner wont be home til tomorrow. He said it?s been a very good tractor but he got eat up by yellowjackets while bush hogging recently and said he?s stepping up to a cab tractor. He listed tractor for $8000 three days ago and somebody stood him up, I saw ad today and he had came down to $7500, in all pics the tractor looks brand new, bucket is not bent and scratched up from use. Figured I better jump on this deal ASAP , will post pics and update tomorrow when I get it home. Any comments on the 231?s ?

I don't know much about pricing. When I started mowing,I had a T0 20. Then another tractor later. Then I was given the opportunity to buy a MF 231, with a rod through the block. I patched the block, got another crank, and rod, and a new liner kit. That was over 15 years ago. It's been a good tractor all those years. The only thing I don't like is the brakes. The just don't apply good turning ability. Mine was made in Poland. Since I got my JD, The only time I use the 231 is for a dirty trash filled field with rocks. Stan

I think they are good little tractors, they sold a ton of them. The 231S brings more money. Has more hp. with a bigger engine (Perkins on both). The price on yours seems reasonable to me.

That appears to be a decent price relative to the ones for sale on Tractor House. Understand that you can't expect much from the loader on a compact without FWA. If the owner has his new one there you will see that it has FWA, and could have more to do with his trade than the yellow jacket.

Good price I guess with the very low hrs if you are going to keep it and use it long term.Put some hrs on it and a few dings and the value will drop a lot. That size tractor
all the buyers want 4WD whether they need it or not, it'd be a hard tractor to sell around my area.

As for front wheel assist, put 3 point bale spear on ,stab a bale or mount a heavy implement on rear for ballast plus its easier on front axle when bucket is full and moving .
Nice sharp like new tractor.im not a massy man but id use it n be happy

Shoot, I've got a 1972 MF 135, that's had a lot of hard use 6,xxxhrs, and looks like it. new rubber on rear. I turned down $7K last year.
