Guys, I gotta change out my manifold on the ol' H. Take a look at the photos (holes and cracks!) and tell me what you think. I've got the nuts all broken loose (easy!), and most of them are dragging out the studs with 'em, so I'll put in all new studs while I'm at it. The valve cover gasket has been leaking (forever?) which may have made it easier to remove the studs and nuts; it will be replaced at the same time. Do I need to remove the carburetor altogether, or can I just disconnect it from the manifold and let it dangle there? Another question: According to Steiner Tractor on-line catalog, "newer" H's (with S/N above 106907, takes 1/2" studs, but what I pulled out are 3/8". Is this weird or is Steiner wrong? It makes me wonder if they've identified the right gaskets, manifold, etc. for my H (S/N 131XXX). Or do you have better places to buy a replacement manifold and all the required goodies?

Not sure about the stud size, but likely the new manifold was designed to fit either size stud, it may need longer studs so you can add heavy washers.

You could check other sources, see if the same is offered. Not uncommon for serial number references to disagree.

As for the carburetor, if it will drop far enough to clear, yes it could be left in place while the manifold is changed.

But from the looks of it, now would be a good time to clean it up!

I think your new manifold is universal to fit an H or Super H, and yes you should be able to just let the carb hang.

Expect more power but tad cold natured, yours has low cost fuel manifold ,the new 1 will be hi compression gas manifold. Thats reason for longer studs. Your nuts on it should be brass. I use silver permatex anti sieze grease on stud threads too.
Nice lookin h in working clothes

Thanks. The H is originally one of the all-fuel tractors. Do I hafta buy that specific manifold, or will the standard manifold work OK?
