Rain gutter cleaning

My rain gutters are full of crap they are high up there 22'and 28' any ideas on how to clean em other than a ladder.thanks

Some pressure washers have an attachment to blow them out . It's messy because you are standing in the area below but I don't care for the height any more either. I installed Gutter Brushes about 8 years ago. I take'em out every 2 years and flush the gutters. My brother has Leaf Gard and he has to clean his every year. There isn't really a clear cut answer.

I have seen gizmos that you attach to a garden hose, but if they are full of crud there is no other way to do it than to physically scoop it out.
My experience.

I manage a property that has a LOT of Fir and Maple trees around 2 buildings. They are not as high as yours, but I have young guy that uses a leaf blower from the roof. We have to clean them 4 times a year. If you are lucky enough to find such a guy (with a safety tether), that might be the way to go. HTH

Surprising. I used to live in a house buried under huge trees and had to clean the gutters at least 4 times a year. Bit the bullet and had Leaf Guard gutters installed and never had to clean them in the following 20+ years. Never had an issue with them even in the hardest rainfall.

Best suggestion I can offer is to make an extension for your air compressor. It should have a quick connect that can attach to your air hose, then immediately have a 1/4-turn valve for turning the air on/off. Pressurized air should not be allowed to build inside PVC pipe.

Use whatever lengths of 1/2" PVC (not CPVC) pipe you need in order to reach your gutters. Use two 90-degree elbows to direct the air downward into the gutter. Hook everything up, and make certain you have goggles and/or a face shield on.

By avoiding the use of water, you will have less chance of creating a wet-material dam inside the gutter.

As an option, you might also consider using 1/2" rigid metal conduit, and taping the joints and connectors with aluminum tape. Still should not be subjected to 90 PSI, but metal conduit might be a bit easier to go that height.

Probably need to get a gutter company to put up some kind of rain guard gutters or at least screens. Have that done and perhaps it would be many years before they need attention.

I second the power washer extension. I had a similar problem this spring and ordered a goose neck gutter wand plus a 5' extension for my Sun Joe electric power washer. I only had to climb up about 12' on the ladder and hang the goose neck over the gutter and blast away. Took just a minute or two. No way I could climb to the eaves and reach into the gutter.

I would call your local rental place. You should be able to rent a towable man lift for pretty cheap. When I maintained a home for a wealthy guy out in the country I would use a long fiberglass stick to pull debris to me once clean rinse out with a garden hose

Gutter cleaner extensions for leaf blowers work pretty well without having to leave the ground. 28 Feet high may be too high for one, but they work for one and two story buildings. Wear a hoodie or rain coat when you use one, and don't let the blower pipe contact your ear as the noise becomes very uncomfortable. There are kits for most brands, and some universal kits.

Many window wash companies also offer gutter cleaning. Most climb onto the roof and use a leaf blower to clean the gutters.

I removed the ends on my gutters so when the down pipe is full the rain will flush the crap out the end of gutter.

Trying to clean gutters while you are standing on the ground will result in you getting wet stinky crap in your face.

I think I read falling 25 feet is consider potentially fatal.

I'm allergic to pain and gravity. Gravity causes us to fall and falling results in pain.

I see numerous posts about using a leaf blower, when the leaves and debris get wet and turn into mud I don?t see how a blower would do anything.

Farmerjohn, that is why these same guys say that it is done 3-4 times a year.

I used to think that way about a blower until our kids bought us one. We have a ranch house so it is easy to get the gutters. A good blower will move all that crap once it has a place to get under it. The one we have is battery powered so there is no cord to hassle with on the roof.

I have the stihl gutter attachment and for the wet and heavy leaves it will blow them out if you get it started. Then air will get under it and blow them out. You have to work at it but it will blow them. But where a rain coat. I wouldnt be without mine.

let dead things lie

forgettabout it it is done by most

hire the gutter guy to sell you on the best newest problem solver

hire it out

forget about them they last he life of the roof

it only bothers you in heavy rain

maybe it's acceptable to have gutters that only work sorta

do not use gutters

find workarounds

get a gutter guy maintenance contract

You know it's a messy proposition

cut down the trees all and evrey one
move

Is that some kind of riddle in code???

I collect and read old popular science and popular mechanics magazines. I remember an add from the 1950's where you could buy a special rain gutter that was very easy to clean. The gutters resembled about a 4 1/2 inch plastic sewer pipe. About one third of the pipe was cut away so it made a trough. These gutters mounted in circular brackets spaced about every 4 feet. When the gutters needed cleaning you just turned the gutter/pipe in the brackets so that it dumped out all the contents. When done you simply just turned it so the cut out was at the top again. This is really a good idea but apparently was never marketed very well .

Its ONLY a problem when its raining and you sure cant fix it then and when the sun is shining its no trouble PROBLEM SOLVED......?

I have mine covered with super fine mesh screen, leaves blow or roll off yet water passes through and I have an extension on my cordless leaf blower to reach them in case.

If you can walk on the roof and blow them out with a leaf blower . Or make a leaf blower attachment out of pipe that allows you to do it from the ground
.

If you stick the leaf blower outlet into the down spout it can remove or loosen some of the blockage right at the downspout. That give the blower an opening to get under the trash in the gutter.

Bucket truck.

That's what I do for gutters, moss, leaves, etc. A friend owns a tree service so I do a bit of overflow mechanic/fab work when his mechanic gets too busy. In turn he let's me use a 60' reach bucket. Park in one spot and hit the entire front of the house. Move it to the back and hit the whole back. 1000 times better than a ladder.
