Ford 3600 PTO Issue

I posted this on the Ford forum and all I got was crickets....

I have a Ford 3600 that I use to mow areas I cant get a batwing in.
The PTO wont disengage. Lever moves freely back and forth. The pin holding lever isn't sheared.
PTO does stop when full clutched.

Internally....think the yolk shifter is worn out?

Why not pull the cover off and have a look inside, then you will know. It probably will only take about 10 minutes. Sometimes we spend more time trying to analyze things, than we do fixing them. The shift collar may not be moving enough to disengage the shafts.

does the lever move too easily or is there some resistance of the yoke sliding? shaft could be twisted and the collar is no longer able to move and the yoke is no longer engaged in the slot on the collar? Comes from hitting something and twisting the end of the shaft...

can you grab the pto shaft and try to push it in and out... it should only move about a 1/16 of an inch..

It moves to freely I think. Like its not engaging anything internally.
I have not pushed in and out on pto shaft but that makes sense....the yolk dogs are out of the slots.

Thanks!

Yes sir, Ill be removing side cover and poking around in there. I knew I would eventually have to but wanted a little
consensus on what it might be!

Thanks!
