Fixed the AC on an older "R' model MACK years ago, had a light hooked up to the AC clutch and when it finally cut out, the thermometer in the vent read 25.6 degrees!! That was a good one. The small cab on them and a little bit of insulation went a long way to good cooling.

We have an ever-so-slow leak on our Chevy truck. I normally have to top off the refrigerant once each Spring. Hadn't had to do it yet this year, but now it's just blowing air.

Last year, had bought some different refrigerant. Says it's made from some kind of ultra-purified propane. Is supposed to be better for the environment AND work better. System is supposed to cool using less. Am about to add some, so hoping everything goes OK.

Think I'll have a camera recording everything. That way the wife shouldn't have a problem collecting life insurance. *lol*

Ahh you?ll be alright just light a smoke while your
charging the system and if you do smoke I wouldn?t
smoke while driving that truck at least . The ac in
my old 6.5 Chevy worked good but it cost 2 mpg to
run and it only got 13 anyway

When I worked in Japan in '96, we had a company car. It had a 'cubby' in front of the gearshift that held a 6-pack and was cooled by the A/C. It was legal as long as the driver wasn't imbibing !

The air gave up the ghost this spring in my 98 Dodge. I dont drive it much so I didn t pay attention to it. Well my son, who knows air conditioning repair took off on a 400 mile round trip with it. When the air did not work for him he popped the hood and wiggled wires till the air kicked in. Turns out a plug was loose on a switch. He fixed it and had air for the rest of the trip. That was way too easy!

On the leaking Chevy, check the high and low psi ports. Mine showed no leaks at all, but it would need a can every 6 months. It turned out to be the service ports, they could not leak with the gauges on them. New schrader valves and it is cool again.

Thank you, will look into that....when the skeeters aren't so bad.

I have a 94 Toyota pickup never leaves the farm. The AC will chill your beer.....ah...errr.. I mean soda pop, just keep rotating them in the beverage holder....

I knew a kid that had an old ford pickup with a big center console bolted to the floor he drilled holes through the floor and then filled it with ice and beer

We're having all kinds of fun with AC this summer. I changed both expansion valves and cleaned evaporators in one, got it vacced down and charged. Three days later, no refrigerant.

Another was using a can a week. Jumped to two a day. Tossed a compressor on it yesterday, now after 30 seconds the engine fan comes on and won't shut off.

Two 98s and a 95 freightliners, more reliable than the isx in the 08 Pete's. And cheaper parts when needed.

T I sent this one to the shop trice they never could figure it out . I absolutely loathe working on anything automotive or heavy trucks hate hate hate hate it all but had a 1200 mile round trip up ahead in 95 degree weather and I was not about to go without ac so I did what they said can?t be done and fixed it myself
