340 rear end on a M?

hello all, im currently pondering about trying to buy a junked farmall 400 or 450 to try and put the rear end on my m for live power and hydraulics. i know of a 340 with a busted crank that could possibly be available. would there even be a chance that the rear end and transmission would bolt up to a m motor?

thanks, langdangnebraska

You would be better off with the back end from a super MTA, you will need everything back from the clutch housing, except wheels and tires!

An M engine needs an M size set of gears to keep from making tiny metal particles in an oil bath. The choices must be Farmall 560 or higher to get the built in
Hydraulics. But a Farmall 400 or 450 is better as the engine will bolt up directly and the operators station will be good to go. Jim

Hello Lang... welcome to YT! I agree with Jim N. placing your M engine in a 400 or 450 is
probably the best scenario for what you are wanting. As suggested a Super MTA would be ideal
but for some reason they generally demand a higher price.
