I was doing a bit of mowing with super olive and noticed the roof on moms house has shingles that shine. They look to be made of fiberglass with a few granulates stuck on them. Is this a good shingle?

Those are very good shingles. They have lasted 30 years and not leaked and are in severe need of replacement if all the gravel is gone.

I don't know much about roofing materials, but I'll bet that the switch to fiberglass was at least thirty years ago. Good for twice as many years as plain steel roofing.
