Finish mower

We found a woods finish mower on Facebook. My dad wanted it to go with Ernie. It was only 65 miles from me ,but I went miles out of my way to pick up my dad. Ended up going 240 miles. Pops paid $350 for the mower ,guy let us hook it up and test it in his yard, cuts like new! Then he gave us a parts mower,99% complete. Needs wheels and one shield. PTO shaft was almost too long, had to take over run clutch off tractor and tip mower back to get it on. Simple to cut a couple inches off? Ernie ran it like a champ!!

I think we need sway bars...it swings side to side badly....

Came with original owners manual!

RM 59 I see he has already got the chains the set the cutting height on. You will learn how to put the belt on first time it jumps of. Might be a good thing to check belt tension right now. When they came out they were considered the standard for finish mowers, latter on most makers went to gearbox driven blades with 4 gauge wheels. When you cut the drive shaft take the same off each end. It should be at its shortest length when the shaft is straight and level with the pto on the tractor.

It is not the sway bars you want. They go from top link bracket to ends of 11 hole drawbat to control height of drawbar and lift lever MUST be LOCKED down to keep from bending-busting something if PTO is operating. What you want is stabilizer bars that go under axle and fasten to fender bolts wih a bracket, left and right brackets. and from that back to the lift pins on the implement, same as what you should be using on a rear blade and with those you can raise and lower implement, sway bars you cannot do that. I think misconseption of what things are actually called. I have a 41 9N, 44 2N and did have an NAA and a Ferguson T0-30 and all took same parts. The stay bars were required when using the 12" long PTO extension that converted the 1 1/8" shaft to the 1 3/8" size for implements. You needed the V drawbat attachment for that as well and we pulled PTO powered combine and forage harvestor with those tractors. You order sway bars and you will get the wrong pieces. The sway bard are 2 pieces hper and lower with slots for bolts for adjustment and should have a third piece with a series of hiles in it for holding drawbar height adjustment against bolts letting the 2 pieces slip. That third piece is also marked with correspomding marks of the other straps to easily set it for correct PTO height for with the pull type PTO powered implements that included the combine, corn picker, hay baler along with other items. Those stabilizer bars will fit and work with your other ford tractors EXCEPT the narrow front end one. or with the Ferguson 20, 30 & 35 models.

Be sure you grease it up each time you use it. I have one I had to rebuild due to the person who had it before me did not grease it as they should have and the bearing went bad which is a common problem with them

Some PTO shafts CANNOT be cut depending on how they are made. Some the outside part is a cast tube with a grease fitting in it. Others the outside tube is just a square thin wall tube with a ban saround the tube at the end to give the tube strength and if you cut that tube band off it will split against the toruqe of the shaft. I don't know that mower so don't know what type of shaft you have.

so what is your prediction, of how many times per week your
dad will mow his lawn, and the neighbor's lawn, now that he has a good excuse to drive Ernie? lol

He mowed 2 days ago with his riding mower and then cut again when we got the finish mower home! Lol. He says he will need a 2nd tractor to pull his wood trailer........

For to pull his wood trailer with either a 9N or 2N these are what he needs from on here, drawbar 9N5182 @ $43.49, 2 stay straps upper 9N5374B @ $ 11.21 each plus 2 stay straps lower 9N5375B @ 11.99 each. And a Universal drawbar lock if using a ball hitch trailer to keep drawbar from rolling over and pulling ball out of hitch 49A29 A $23.36 plus ball of either 1 7/8"3/4" thread CHB17834 @ $13.37 or 2" ball at CHB234 @ $9.74, a 8N can use all these parts but there is a kit that fits the 8N better for less money. but for mower he does not need any of these items, just the following kit, stabilizer kit 231253XHD @ $66.17 + 15.00

grandpa, the drive shaft for my finish mower (it's a generic replacement shaft, not the original) is a bit too long to fasten - UNLESS u fasten it before you've attached both sides of the implement to the lift arms. fasten one side, get other side nearly in place, install drive shaft, fasten second side.

Be glad its not a flimsy king cutter.the frame for the deck is flimsy, bearings are very lite too.mine is kept indoors greased every second yard mowing but every 3 years bearings fail.ive replaced all 6 idler pullys with bigger better pullys .wish id never seen that king cutter

Double check the length on the drawbar, has to be same length as your other 3 point implements. They are not clear as to exactly what is the one for the 9-2-8N tractors as they have them all mixed up in the listings with the sizes for a 7-8000 listed in section for the N series and the one is I think for the little subcompact 1000 tractor. The stay bars the red will work same as the blue but they were higher priced and I think blue would look better on a battleship grey tractor. If buying those items look at the chain that holds the quadrant lever down so if the lever does get moved with PTO happening to be running will not bend everything else up. I have a 41 9N and a 44 2N bought new in may of 44. Had a NAA and a TO-30 Ferguson and same parts fit all of them. Might find those parts listed better under one of the other models.
