Crop Pictures From the Ground

Sun came out mid afternoon so I did not need much more reason to take the Merc out to look at how the crops are growing. This field of canola beside my driveway looks pretty good from ground level. The wheat is pretty well high as the headlights on the Merc in places.

(quoted from post at 06:47:08 07/18/19) I thought that Canola was just a new name for Rape Seed.
Yes sometime in the 1970s they changed the name to canola. Most grown is now Roundup ready canola and yes, bees like it. Up til this year it was our most profitable crop.

We used to use it as a pasture mix for the brood sows. It was something they could root in and not totally destroy. They never let it get to seed though so do not know if it would get a good crop.

Beautiful photos. Is there any photo enhancement done? The blue just looks too blue to be natural and the clouds just "jump out" at us. Is there a story behind why there is a road across your wheat field?

I think I may have asked you before but of course forgot what your answer may have been. Anyway do you or others there grow any durum wheat? Durum was (maybe still is?) a major crop in North Dakota when I was growing up there.

Hi Ron
Used to grow lots of durum on this farm back when it ws worth more than regular r.s. wheat but prices dropped and disease in it made me decide to give it a rest for a while.
The trail through the wheat field is where I drive to the dugout to fill the sprayer tank. Half mile South of the yard.
I hate to give away secrets but yes, as outstanding as our scenery is, I do run most o my photos through an editing/enhancement program. Just as an example I'll post this one that is unedited, right off the I phone camera.

Rusty,

Thanks for the "clue" on the photos. I won't "spill" your secrets!

After asking you about durum, I got curious (again) and searched out more info about it. Seems there is lots of disease plaguing it where ever it's grown and some concern about those disease(s) being harmful to animals and humans. Research is being conducted and reports written about the problems. Takes lots of time to read those reports with hard-to-pronounce names and chemical formulas. Interesting but tiresome when I don't need to know all the details.
