DIY Boom pole

Thinking of throwing together a Boom Pole to pick up a drag. I have a drawbar stabilizer I am no longer using that may be a good start. My concern is the location of the top link mount. Never used a boom pole and not sure how critical the location of top link mount is. What you think, will this work?

A clevis through the top link pin (might need to be a longer pin) with a chain going out to the 3/4 length of the boom. A receiver adapter used with a vertical pivot
connection to the bottom of the pole, and side chains to limit side to side would work. putting a turn buckle ot geared come-along in the top chain would allow
adjustment. Jim

Thought about building one myself years
ago but didn't when I found out a new one
was just over a hundred bucks.

I built one using some heavy angle iron and welded Cat 1 lower link pins to it. The top link mount is heavy 2" square with 3/8"
plate with holes for the pin. The boom is 2" square supported from below by a brace and with a 4/4" round stock top brace. i built
it to the measurements of a TSC boom p[ole. then painted it. Next time I'd just go buy one.

I've seen a bunch of dyi boom poles here
over the years, some of them beautifully
built pieces of equipment.
But invariably they are made WAY TOO
HEAVY. I have had this cheap King Kutter
boom pole for 18 years now and have used
and abused it a lot.
It weighs about 80? lbs and is plenty
for one man to drag around and put on
and take off a tractor.
Yet it will lift the front of this 4000
off the ground.
I am an excellent welder/fabricator and
could build one too but never would.
Not when I could buy one for less than
the price of the steel.

PS,
If you want to make a boom pole a much more effective tool add a hydraulic top link to your tractor. I made this one out if a heavy hyd cylinder I bought on ebay. Sacrificed the swivel balls from a screw type I had.
I would cry if I ever had to go back to a screw type top link.

Already have the Hyd top link, on both tractors. I would not own another tractor without it. Makes life allot easier in many ways.

You guys have about convinced me to just go to Attwoods and buy one. Pretty sure they have the KK or something in that price range.

If you buy one pick up a grab hook while
you're there. Drill a hole and pin it to
that tab on top.
I got this idea from board member Hobo
NC and use it a lot.

Man, that's the only way to go!!! I added a remote to my 7510 Kubota and
made up a hydraulic third link. Makes adjusting and hooking up implements
so much easier. I also use the universal 3pt. hook up frame from TSC.
Makes life a lot easier!!!!

Attwoods had the King Kutter for $149.00 and it is now sitting in the back of my pickup. Not planning on picking up anything heavy, that is what my loader is used for.

Thanks gang, now just a matter of tying it to my drag.
