Went out to brush hog a field and SWMBO say's "you might want to put on your shorts it's hot", I said I didn't wear shorts around the equipment.
Was hogging away and hit a hidden rock, it exploded and a softball sized piece hit me on the shin (front)of my left leg, I'm ok but have a "shin shiner". You just never know.

Now before the YTOSHA folks jump on this the mower is in the shop getting either some belting or chains.

I certainly have nothing to say about that. Is the nature of the beast. I don't live in rock country, but rotary mowers can still throw chunks of wood through your seat. If you make it impossible for this to happen, they won't work as well...at least from [i:d426aeb738]my[/i:d426aeb738] very limited experience.

(quoted from post at 16:26:03 07/12/19) the question begs,....how did you get hit in the front pulling a bushhog ????

Ricochet. Rocks get a bit wacky when flying through the air. Never want to hit just one target, nnooooo, they gotta hit as many as possible! *lol*

Yes those projectiles can bounce all over the place. That is why you are not
supposed to even use you rider mower to try and brush hog. Done that a few
times don't ya know. Those hidden snakey sticks hinding in the grass.

Glad you're okay. My Dad was hoggin many years ago with a MF50 of course and he hit a rock that was thrown forward and hit his large truck wheel and tire he used as a front weight and it bounced off the tire and broke one of his headlights. Another time he was pulling my 7 footer and a blade broke and was thrown about 20 feet forward of his position. Bottom line when you're hoggin stuff can fly all over, be careful.

The mowers sure do throw things. A rock flew out from my woods, hit my front wheel, flew back and hit me in the eye. I have a scare on my eye from it. Chains help, but the rock flew out anyway. Stan
