power steering 1954 Ford 850

Welcome daddowlde!

I doubt you will find a "kit in a box" for that. If you did, it would be very expensive!

A couple of options...

Scavenge up enough parts and design your own. This can be done using an automotive type directional valve, assist cylinder, and a belt driven pump. This can be done at a reasonable cost depending on your access to salvage parts and ability to fabricate the necessary mount brackets, etc.

Some have used electric automotive assist steering. This might work for occasional use, but would not be enough to overcome the weight of a loader or be practical for a working tractor. The other problem is it stresses the existing steering gear. All it does is apply more force to the sector shaft, which can cause components to be subjected to stress beyond what the gear was intended to handle.

Since that tractor did have power steering offered as an option, my suggestion would be to find a donor tractor that has PS, and transfer the parts. Either locate one at a salvage yard, make a deal to purchase all needed parts, and remove them your self.

Or buy a parts tractor, get what you need, keep or sell the rest.

And then there is one more option, if this is a working tractor, unless it has sentimental value, or is in exceptionally good condition, trade it for something that better suits the needs at hand.

There was, Jackson Power Steering, not sure if they are still in business, someone here will know.
They did offer a kit for these.

A possibility from sharing what I know about these, ( enough to be dangerous ; lol)

A donor power steering box, pump bracket - believe there is a modern equivalent that cab be substituted, hoses, gaskets, radius rods with cylinders that don't leak, drag links ( both need to be longer or shorter for P/S models - I forget now ) or you can use a modern equivalent cylinder if factory ones leak, think they are a real fuss to reseal. I have seen a few with non factory cylinders slightly larger diameter.

Our '64 4000 had power steering, sure remember it being a real easy tractor to run with power steering, very nice feature on one of these.

I spoke with mr. Jackson and he does have a unit that works and like the gentleman above says it's a little spendy but steering is kind of one of those things definitely makes the tractor a little bit more pricey but might be worth it in the long run resale probably a lot better too I may give it a try just got to justify the price

Check with some tractor salvage yards for the power steering off of a 801 or early 4000, they will fit on your 800.
There where some on Craigs List for my area not long ago.
