Why do they do that?! (rant)

My baler broke so I start looking for another one. Found one I like and try to set a time to go look at it.

Me: Hey when's a good time to come look at your baler?

Him: Late tonight or tomorrow night.

Me: How late is late?

Him: 8pm

Me: OK I can be there at 8

Him: That's not going to work. I prefer tomorrow about 6

Me: Ok we'll they that see you at around 6

So I drive there TWO HOURS AWAY

Me: Ok I'm here.

Him: ??

Me: You said about 6 It's 6

Him: I can't. You should have told me you was coming

Me: Ahh we set this up at your time yesterday!

Him: Well I'm in the field trying to get stuff done and just don't have time.

Me: ?? Grrr NEVERMIND!!

Wasted 5 hours and a tank of fuel for a sale he never intended to make

I suspect he has done that to countless people in his lifetime ..... just an everyday occurrence to him. Of course, he's not driving and wasting his time I guess.

Then there are the other jerks who say they'll be at your place at a certain time and don't bother to show or call. Made me quit selling on Craigslist, now my excess stuff goes to a consignment auction.

Move on and be glad you only got screwed out of a tank of fuel.

Hard to say how bad you would be ranting right now had you took his word on the condition of the baler and brought it home.

Just before you're ready to hit the road, it never hurts to call to confirm a long distance appointment.

Had that happen with a forage chopper i looked at with my dad. Drove about 1 1/2 or so hours to look at it. Confirmed with the guy when we were leaving, and when we'd be there. Get there and look at it (parked on a trailer, in a ditch) and it's way rougher than the ad and pictures lead to believe. Call him to see where he's at & to see if we can dicker a little on the price in person. He's over an hour away, and asks if we'd wait there for him.

Said don't bother and we left. Fortunately we drove down with my car so it wasn't as bad as if we had taken the truck with plans to bring it home right away.

When I'm on the selling end, i make sure i have something to do around the house/yard like mow the lawn. If they show up, i can take a break and deal with them. If they don't show, i still got something done. I'm not going to wait around to be stood up.

Exactly.I sell a lot of junk from time to time, and the vast majority of people are just fine.We only tend to remember the nuts.Instead of having to write an ad,send it
somewhere, wait for it to show up,people that never would have bothered before now find they can sit at a keyboard and put out ads. They seem to forget that once the ad is
published they actually have to meet and talk to people. With the internet I am finding I have to deal with people that have no clue how to buy or sell something. It used to be
that somebody would look at something,buy it,or make an offer.Now I get a lot of stupid responses.If I want $1000 I'm getting,take $100?I've gone to setting the price,and that's
it.One thing I'm getting a lot of are sellers that set a price, then when I get there they say they've had a lot of calls so they feel they priced it too cheap. Then they try to
ask for more.Something I've been hearing a lot of lately is,I never pay the asking price. At that point I quit putting effort into selling, because I just heard I'm not
buying. There must be some sites that offer information on how to buy things, some of the things I've heard from different people almost seem to be scripted, and all alike.

if they pull the "I am too busy" based on what you posted, I would have been all sulking and said something like "gosh, I really need it and it looked good in the ad, I was willing to offer you more $$ then what you wanted, it looked so nice"
keep at it until he gets all greedy and drops everything to meet up with you.
Then as he pulls into the where it is at, give him a one finger salute as you wave good bye.

Thought about that. I did see the baler and it looked like a good one for the money. And I had cash in my pocket!.

I could have told him I'll just take it home to see how good it works and wait to see how long until he shows up then.
