Tractor Chickens

The best thing that ever happened in the cattle industry is cattle egrets. It is said they were blown into the South from Africa by a hurricane.
They keeps the ticks off cattle so now we don't have to dip them or spray them. And they love tractors. I can walk to a tractor and they will congregate waiting to follow along and eat every thing they can swallow that the cutters or plows kick up. I have seen them swallow a mouse whole.

Like seagulls behind a shrimper. That was weird when I was mowing Saturday near Bastrop. I always have a red tail hawk overhead, a couple of resident caracaras, egrets,, and flocks of grackles around. Not a one this time.

the caracaras are funny. they don't fly around looking for mice and such running out of the grass, they hop around

Illegal birds? Are you sure they don't have little tiny green cards hidden away somewhere?

I was wondering where all the red tailed hawks were today. I must have seen a half dozen dead mice and moles and no takers.

I've had a red tailed hawk watch while I mow, It has carried off a small rabbit and usually field mice while strafing by, pretty neat to see for a lonely time mowing.

I usually have a few when cutting hay or mowing pastures. This week while cutting hay, none showed up. Now I know why. They are all in SE Texas.
We usually have a few with the horses in the pasture.

(quoted from post at 10:12:32 07/10/19) Where do they nest?

What ever group of trees that the decide to roost. Stupid thing is legally one can't disturb them in their roosting area. Why they're federally protected I don't understand because they are not native to USA.
