Mice- here we go again

I'm bringing it up again. I just cleaned a mouse nest out of the top of my combine cab. Anything I use to deter them they either ignore, eat, or chew up for bedding. Is there anything that really works?

At the dealership we used to wrap scented dryer sheets around hoses and wires after repairs were made. As long as there was some scent left they stayed clear. They had to be changed out every so often, but seem to work better than anything else.

Rodent Block. Sold at farm stores such as Fleet Farm. Also, put out as much poison as you can on plates around the combine.

Put an open tub with a small amount of diesel fuel in the cab plenum.....remove all the panels you can, air filter etc, so they don't have a dark spot to nest. I pour a gallon or so of used oil in the combine after it's stored. That drains into the bottoms of any cross auger and the bin where there might be a few kernels left. That spoils their food supply and keeps some areas from rusting.

They must be going up the cab posts. That was happening on my Cat tractor. Get that spray foam in a can and squirt it up them posts. It worked for me.

I also use mothballs. I can only say I have not found any mouse damage when I did that. None.

Some people like dryer sheets because they smell better. Personally moth balls don't bother me, but not much does since my surgery. I have heard some brands of dryer sheets work better than others. But I have no experience with that.

Yes, mouse poison where your pets cannot get to it around the perimeter of the combine or tractor and building is a good idea also. You end up building multiple rings of protection.

Cats are good but not a complete solution in my mind.

Just my two cents.
