July 2 Drone View

Trctor reference, my 15-30 McCormick Deering can be seen beside the old shack. But what I was aiming for was the condition of the canola field above it. That is way too much bare ground showing for July 2. Canola germination was very poor on most fields this yer. I m surprised some of these fields have not been written off by insurance and re planted to green feed

Hello Rusty
If you were to buy a new drone what would you buy.I would like a good camera on it.
Got a itch to buy one.
Flew one last Sunday sure was easy compared to the RC planes I used to fly.

I am like Mark want to see your answer, buy WHY the low count ont the planting. Was it like of moisture, I know you looked like you did a good job drilling it or was the germination bad on the seed?

Canola cannot be "drilled" very deep, often it is simply broadcast, then harrowed in.

If the shallow-seeded canola sprouts while the top half-inch or so of soil is damp, then the soil dries out before it take root, it's DEAD!

In fact that poor field of canola beside my yard is not mine. My fields are a little better since they were planted on
summerfallow and had enough moisture to give a better start. Even mine have way more bare patches than they would normally as we
had no rain for almost month after seeding
To the guys asking bout which drone? Well my nephew has DJI Phantom which is very similar to the Autel X Star Premium I bought
about the same time They are pretty similar in all features. Good quality cameras. Only complaint I have on mine is the battery.
First one failed while still on warranty and now the replacement is down to about half it's normal flight time.
Here is a shot of my canola from yesterday evening. At this level it looks pretty good but I'd guess a drone shot will make it
look a bit patchy too.

Rusty, same story with canola around here. Some fields look just ok, and some look terrible. Early seeded germinated then died due to the dry conditions. Some just didn't seem to germinate. Some varieties worse than others...seed coating maybe??.
With seed costs at $10-$12k per quarter plus chemical and fert and around $9.40/bu bid last week its not shaping up to be a good canola year!

And yet Ag Canada and Viterra predict huge carryout of canola due to the loss of the China market. I think there will be lot less canola harvested in Sask this year.

Thanks. I?d wondered if that was the neighbors. That?s another great picture. Hope the bare spots fill in for you. Your drought pictures looked like the Dust Bowl. Always enjoy your posts.
