Grease Fittings

Would like to visit with the person who cleverly designed the pound-in grease fitting..... Anyway, I yanked one out. Looks to be 1/8" diameter. What's the recommended fix? I don't want to pound another one in, would like to screw one in.

It all depends on the size of your drive in fitting. The most common is close to the same size as the 1/4-28 screw in fittings. So you can often take a 1/4-18 tap and thread the hole for a screw in type. The larger common grease fitting size is 1/8 pipe thread. This is in SAE fittings I do have an assortment of metric fittings that can be used too.

I will second hating the drive in fittings. IF you have one that become obstructed and the grease gun tip locks on under pressure, you just about always loosen the fitting getting the gun off.

The drive in fittings are 5/16" and I have never had a problem with them And most places a fitting was screwed in the steel is too hard to drill of tap. Had the 1/4-28 fittings that would like to have threads that would not after years hold that fitting and impossible to drill to tap for a 1/8" pipe thread fitting. Had way more of those 1/4-28 fittings come out than ever had with the drive in fittings.
