Gehl Baler ? For RR Lund

Hey Randy, on your Gehl round baler what is the secret to cut the twine after the bale is wrapped? I know
keeping the knife section sharp is a help, but for some reason I can't hardly use poly twine and make it
cut. I also can't seem to find a new knife section to work. Do you have any words of wisdom? Thanks - Bob

We have an 1865. We only use poly twine. I know we tinkered with ours, but don't remember what we did exactly. Going to the farm in a bit. Maybe if I take a look it'll jog my memory.

Don't know. I don't use plastic. I have trouble on occasion, but when it does,it's because there are sisal fibers bunched up in the clamp that grabs the twine when it cuts. Make sure that clamp is grabbing tight and maybe take a file to the knife is my only suggestion.

Well I looked, and we had a problem similar to what rrlund said now that I remember. The fingers were closing before they should have sometimes and other times not at all. Took everything apart and just cleaned it up. Been good since.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I ordered a new knife and hope that is what it is. Earlier this year it never missed a bale, now it won't cut any. Nothing changed, except it did get rained on a couple of times...long story as it has not been rained on before as I keep it in a tight shed 99.9% of the time. But I did take the knife off and sharpen it, but it made no difference. I'll keep fiddling with it. Thanks again - Bob
