Sand mining project

Guess who's been working overtime? This is on the north side of my barn.
Hint: I've baited a trap with cantalope.

I like to study their tenacity. I pack the hole full of short 2x4s and they just chew them up until they can be kicked out. Then I tried bricks, broken glass, 4x4s, scrap iron... all ends up on top of the mound. This went on for about a week, the groundhog never gave up. When I placed a round rock in the hole, and a few 12" landscaping spikes on either side of the rock, he decided there must be a better location and moved on.

I want a more final end to his digging, moving to another part of my yard is not acceptable. If I can get him in the trap he will will be out of my hair forever. I think I have one in my front yard too. He is next on my list.

You need a few of these. They can be a little hard to find. Hogbombs. You can also throw a couple of those 30 minute road flares in the hole and shovel it shut. Lastly, stop at your nearby firworks stand this time of year. They have $5.oo smoke canisters that work really well too. Make a heck of a lot of choking smoke. Give any of these a try. Just make sure you don't let any of the smoke escape.

Old chsin link fence laid alongside the building to about 3?-5? will keep them away and won?t have to deal with others in the future...unless you like continually fighting these man vs nature battles (I don?t). The fence is flexible enough that it?ll settle into the dirt and can be mowed over. Can get cheap old chain link on Craigslist or talk to fencing companies.

I hose from an exhaust pipe, connected to a 2 inch pipe, stuck down in the hole for 30 minutes should take care of it.

Give him some cheap Dollar Store bubble gum every day. I had some ground hogs in my machine shed and that took care of them. First few days they ate it all, then started to leave some half chewed pieces, and then no more activity! It clogs up their guts.

(quoted from post at 08:32:20 06/30/19) My guess it's an armadillo. I have one that burrows under my shop.

Armadillo's are too damn lazy down here to dig their own.
They will move in [u:48f84d0dc3]with[/u:48f84d0dc3] a gopher tortoise instead.

I had one years ago, a 1/2 tank of gas running through the old F150 with shop vac hose off tail pipe stopped the activity for a few years, but it (they)was back. This time I took pitty on the dirty dusty home they dug and oiled it with some waste oil. They must not have liked it, I haven't seen them lately. Leo
