154 Lo-Boy carburetor

I thought it would be a simple matter to check farmallcub.com to find the float setting, but I came away more confused than ever. They give the float height and the float drop, measuring off of the bowl gasket. However, at the end of the procedure, it is stated that the service manual takes these measurements without the gasket. So why is this guy setting it with the gasket? He doesn't believe the manual? Is he trying to correct some other deficiency by including the thickness of the gasket? Which method is correct? thanks, Fritz

I've rebuilt many many carbs over the past 40 years and have yet to measure the float to spec. I simply hold them upside down and adjust the float so it is parallel to the gasket surface. Your carb will be fine if you measure with or without the gasket, it's not that critical.
